What a great start to your visit to Carlisle Steve with the 37s. The video has reminded me off all-nighter I used to do collecting stock and there was a lot about in them days with all the post newspaper vans and sleepers etc.

antman09ful1 thanks Mike, yes it was a cracking start as I had only arrived 15mins earlier. I see why it reminds you of your allnighters collecting stock, and there was a few there this night doing exactly that. Cheers mate, Steve.

Surprising how busy it is, even though there aren't the mail and parcels trains there once were. Very evocative view of the coal train heading off at 16:00.

An extremely interesting video. Thanks for sharing it with us. Question, from a U.S.A. railfan - how do they decide which trains shall be pulled by electric, and which trains shall be pulled by diesel? I saw passenger and freight pulled by both, throughout the video. Some of those diesels looked as if they were long enough to have two prime movers in them. Do they? Thank you.
@steve71p
8 жыл бұрын
+KGSnow2 Thank you. Speaking for the WCML then the majority of passenger trains are electric for the longer routes like London - Glasgow. The diesel passenger trains are still required for the non-electrified routes. As for the diesels in this video I think they all have a single prime mover, but I stand to be corrected. Cheers, Steve.

CPfilms1198 After a lot of trial & error I finally settled on rendering in H264 AVC where I created a custom profile that best accomodates the quality profile of my recorded files. I also switch off the Intelligent SVRT and fast rendering options.

I love trains.The big noisy dirty things they are lol.I lived in England and Scotland as a young child.My uncle worked for the railroad between that and trips I fell in love with them.You dont get the same sites and sound in the States as you do in U.K.I miss those times so long ago.

Thanks very much Steve. Was looking on ebay a second hand Panasonic I love it when you guys have big zooms and you bring the action from close up to far back. was thinking up to 100 times or is that over the top. Sorry to do this to you. can you tell us what size ssd cards and how many do you take for a day filming please ! on should we say a good day. ( i notice no ones asking these kind of questions) carry on the good work remember its more than trains your also recording a bit of History. Get people in your shots occasionally. In years to come your look back at these clips and its interesting to see how people were dressed.

+John Phillips Hi John, my primary camera has a 32GB Class 10 SDHC fitted which gives 2hrs 45min of recording time at 1080/50p which is much more than I need. My camera has 12x Optical zoom, and I never use digital zoom as you lose quality. I would recommend an Optical zoom somewhere between 10x to 20x. Too high a zoom gives new problems with stability as even the slightest vibration is magnified greatly.
