Carlito. I've noticed that you changed your grip from more wrist to more fingers. Why did you make the change and how did you practice?

I’ve been recording a lot more and am letting the microphones do more of the work for me. It sounds a lot fuller and it opens up the drums/cymbals more. However, If I’m playing let’s say at Lion King I play a lot of wrists, fingers and forearms. But I have always practiced all 3. For me I have a switch in my mind that just happens naturally now. Also depends on how many notes you’re playing. If I’m playing single shot stuff i’m going wrist and maybe a combination of that and forearms.

You’re one of my primary go-to channels to learn from. Would you be open to making a lesson on the groove you play from the guitar center drum solo before the Billie Jean section? It’s the fast high hat groove. In that same solo, you do a very intricate ride bell pattern as well. You sent me the sheet music before but I am not well versed in reading it.

Thank you for everything you do for drumming community! You make everything looking so easy but most of the time isn’t.
