Nice. One knob, wow!! ; ) I'd probably tend towards a JCM800 conversion, nice that there are pre-punched holes for the preamp sockets.

Hello, good choice. I never thought to look if the chassis was pre punched on the front for more controls. That would save me a job. Thanks for watching and take care.

Fantastic video. You always have the most interesting amps being you are over in the UK. Kudos my friend. If you are going to turn it in to a guitar amp, I would do something of my own design.

Hello David, thank you. I think you have some interesting amps over the pond. You have so many too. All those old PA amps, I find interesting. We don't have much stuff like that over here in the UK. I could do my own design. I do have an idea or two in my head. Take care David.

Put a simple Champ preamp, volume, treble, bass with a 12AX7 and BAM you have a jam machine.

Those beautiful Partridge transformers definitely deserve a second life! If it were me I'd want to do something with a little twist. Maybe something like a Hiwatt with a pentode in V1? Reasonably sure the PT can handle a couple more preamp tubes. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this one!

The classic British pentode tube in a guitar amp is of course an EF86 but those are infamous for often being microphonic ( not to mention scarce and expensive); probably not a great match for a heavy 100 watt amp that would sit on top of a 4x12 speaker cabinet. You'd probably be better off using a 5879, if you can get those in England ---- they're a low-microphonics pentode that were frequently used as microphone preamps in American made PA and mic/paging amplifiers. The pinout is different from an EF86 and they have somewhat lower gain.....

Hello. I have used Pentode pre-amp tubes before. I really like them. I have used the EF86 and the 6BL8/ECF80. The prototype amp I built using Television tubes uses PCF80. As @goodun2974 says, they be can microphonic. It's a good idea. I like it. Take care mate.

A DR103 would be great ,75% there ,the extra holes are already there for the ECC83`s and the ECC81 is there as well. Great base to start from. A real treasure trove Martyn!

You don't get to see many of those theses days Martyn. My band in the 1970's had a Matamp 100 watt slave which we used to boost up our pair of 4X12 PA columns .. The Carlsbro looks in excellent condition and is well worth converting into something a bit more versatile. If it were me ( and I had the skills and eyesight) I'd have a go at a Dumble clone.. Apparently there's a PCB available to do this conversion using a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe chassis.

Very cool. What about having this as the back-end for the multitude of little pre-amp stomp boxes they're making nowadays? Some are analog some are DSP. Some of them are apparently really good-including the DSP ones.(Yes. I know that's sacrilegious in some circles) How does that work with one of these "Amp in a Pedal" boxes they're making? Input impedance etc? As always, great video. Thanks alot and keep jamming!

How about setting it up as a PA system, and comparing its sound against that of a pair of powered speakers? You could use the same mixing desk for both. I have two Yamaha DXR 12s, with their Class D amps, but I have a nagging feeling that actually, a good, clean valve amp would sound much better. What do you think?

Hello. You may be right on that. I can't recall ever hearing a valved PA. These were out of date even when I was young. It's an idea. I will give it some thought. Take care.

@@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher Thank you. When I was a teenager in the 1970s my older brother played in a band, and they had a 150 Watt solid state PA amp, so I agree, valve PA systems were a thing of the past as long ago as that. I used to help carry their gear, and even though it was probably lighter than its valve predecessors, it was still bloody heavy! No one who's ever lugged gear up Welshpool Town Hall's steps can forget the experience...

@@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher , A 100 V distributed sound system is unusual in my experience; here in the US, PA amps usually have 25 V and 70 V outputs (in addition to the usual 8 ohm output).

The layout reminds me of HI WATT they used partridge mains transformers and output transformers not all sound output transformers sound the same so I think it would sound best with HI WATT as they used Partridge transformers.
