I hear mariachi static on my radio, And the tubes they glow in the dark. And I'm there with you in Ensenada, And I'm here in Echo Park. Carmelita, hold me tighter, I think I'm sinkin' down. And I'm all strung out on heroin, On the outskirts of town. Well I pawned my Smith and Wesson, And I went to meet my man. He hangs out down on Alvarado Street, At the Pioneer Chicken stand. Carmelita, hold me tighter, I think I'm sinkin' down. And I'm all strung out on heroin, On the outskirts of town. Well I'm sittin' here playin' solitaire, With my pearl handled deck. The county won't give me no more methadone, And they cut off your welfare check. Carmelita, hold me tighter, I think I'm sinkin' down. And I'm all strung out on heroin, On the outskirts of town. Carmelita, hold me tighter, I think I'm sinkin' down. And I'm all strung out on heroin, On the outskirts of town 💕

That's the beauty of musical choice EMS, We all listen to what we want.. But the beauty of Linda covering anyone, and especially Warrens song, is that she has a way of taking perfectly good music/songs, and putting her own little perks, twisting slightly, even the lyrics or tunes, and making her own top hits from them! She & Warren were friends, so I'd like to think of him listening to her rendition with pride in the fact that she hit a higher note without ever once losing the bittersweet poignancy this song has.. Thanks for listening & commenting!

Thanks for listening Robert, this song has been recorded by so many people since Warren Zevon wrote it around 1970, he did a couple demo records himself before he included it on an album in 1976. Others picked it up & made it their own. I like the way Linda changed his verse from, 'I pawned my Smith Corona, to I pawned my Smith & Wesson.' Canadian Murray McLaughlin was the first to record it in 1972. I also like Dwight Yoakam & Flaco Jimenez's performance, among others. Thank you for listening here, and comparing the artists Rell.. I'd say GG was singing from the depths & despair of the heroin induced pain, so he would bring that forth in the song. Whereas, Warren Zevon wrote and sang the song as many others have since, from the pain & empathy they feel in their hearts for the plight of those afflicted souls.. Every person singing the song, imo, has either lived it themselves, or know & lost someone to the addiction. GG Allin has been gone these many years, those who will look into his tortured days, will see why he sang his songs as he did. I send hopes & love to everyone & the families of those going through the dark days... Thanks again
