The coastal town of Carnarvon, just north of Shark Bay in Western Australia, is the gateway to the Northwest and Coral Coast. It's built on the high point of the Gascoyne River Delta. This is a low-lying dune system bordered by channel levees, flood plains, coastal marshes and abandoned distributary channels. Waters from cyclonic rain in the hinterland and storm surges meet at the coast and regularly threaten the town with flooding. High wind and swells during the last intense Cyclone destroyed the town Jetty that extended out to sea more than a mile. This video scans along the remnants of the old wooden jetty over marshlands onshore and investigates the channels and sediments of the delta front.
