In this Physics video lecture in Hindi for class 11 and B.Sc. we explained Carnot engine and Carnot cycle. The formula for the efficiency of the Carnot engine has also been derived. During the derivation we found that the maximum efficiency of a heat engine is (1 - Tc/Th), where, Tc is the temperature of the cold reservoire and Th is the temperature of the hot reservoire. In one cycle Carnot engine passes through 4 thermodynamic changes. In the first step it passes through an isothermal expansion while being kept over the hot reservoir. Then it passes through an adiabatic expansion. In third step it undergoes an isothermal compression and then an adiabatic compression. in the first two stages the thermodynamic system works on the surrounding and in the last two stages the system accepts some work. The net work done by the system divided by the heat energy accepted by the system is known as the efficiency of that Carnot Engine.
