Caro Murphy
Caro Murphy is a game and interactive experience designer leading the vanguard in the emerging field and art form of interactive, experiential, and live-action game design. Caro has produced award-winning work as the Immersive Experience Director for Disney’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser exhibit. Serving as a game adjudicator for the Academy of Arts and Sciences, Caro is also the Founder and CEO of the Boston Festival of Indie Games. They are a Visiting Associate Professor at Northeastern University in Boston and create immersive theater experiences as Chief Creative Officer of Incantrix Productions. Caro also co-leads the Playable Theatre nonprofit, promoting interdisciplinary creators in interactive live performance art. With a rich background in education, they have taught everywhere, from leading institutions such as Harvard and MIT to small nonprofit arts organizations targeting children in underserved communities. They are also proud of their ten-year leadership of BostonFIG, fostering the next generation of game creators and producing the world's largest independent games festival.
Carly Kocurek
Carly A. Kocurek is a writer, game designer, and a humanities professor. She has published multiple books on the history of games and immersive media, including Coin-Operated Americans: Rebooting Boyhood at the Video Game Arcade (Minnesota, 2015) and Brenda Laurel: Pioneering Games for Girls (Bloomsbury, 2017) and written on related topics for outlets like The Washington Post, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and The Atlantic. Currently, she is lead researcher and producer on Halcyon Daze: The Final Voyages of Disney's Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, an independently produced documentary. Recent game projects include At the Doll Cafe, about dolls experiencing existential crisis, and Golden Mart, a role-playing game about customer service during the apocalypse. She directs the program in Game Design and Experiential Media at Illinois Tech.
