My favourite scene from the movie, no need for words, the music and the violins start to build up the tension as she is looking for Carol, because its a risky decision to make in the 50's to be together but then she finds her, and they look at each other and the music starts to sound more happy and peaceful like it was the right decision in the end.

Every detail in this scene is so accurate and so well done it freaks me out. The way the camera starts shaking as the girls walks towards Carol showing her deepest feelings. The love represented by the red lights on each table and people walking in front of the camera like barriers to her approach. Blanchett finally offers an enigmatic expression that shows so many thoughts that only this art form could express.

This movie is so well done. I've seen it probably 10 times at this point and I still notice new things when I watch. Like how in this scene, nearly everyone in the room is men. the few women walk by with a male companion. Therese walks through this sea of men separating her eyes from Carol's and then finally there is that moment of arrival, when it is as if the two of them are the only people in the room. It goes back to these other scenes where the men can't really enter their private little world.

This Book had such a cult following in the 1950's since Carol and Therese had the potential of a Happy Ending. From 1948-1963 when the Lesbian Pulp Fiction movement was at it's peak, the writers were told to never allow the Characters to have a happy ending. If they "did" the book wouldn't be published. Marijane Meaker (Patricia Highsmith's Ex Girlfriend) who wrote Spring Fire under the name Vin Packer had Two Characters Susan Mitchell aka "Mitch" and Leda who met as part of a Sorority Tri Epsilon but couldn't be together. She also wrote under M.E. Kerr the Teen Classic Deliver Us From Evie as well as Gentlehands.
