This was an amazing interview! I love how genuine Carol is and how she's not afraid of stating her opinions. It was wonderful to know more about her coaching process and very interesting how she keeps track of everything and everyone. Can you imagine coaching Paul since he was 8, being part of his growth and witnessing all his top achievements. It must be so special. Good luck, Piper and Paul, and keep shining 💖🌟💖🌟 Love from Portugal

Carol Lane did an amazing job selling Piper and Paul here! She basically gave Skate Canada all the talking points about why they deserve that world title - Piper’s diagnosis, the fall at GPF, “they’ve never been very lucky at the Olympics”, idk if they’re going to continue etc. She also did it in a way that wasn’t condescending. Trust Skate Canada to mess it up tho w the way they’ve been running things… 🙃

Excellent interview. Good questions. Carol can be entertaining but it's also nice to see her thought process a bit. I am an admitted Piper and Paul super fan (going to worlds to see THEM) mostly because I think they are different from the others. They are very creative. Carol is very creative in her choreography. I feel that doesn't get enough attention, especially because her skaters skate. It's not all about the lifts for them. They spend time on the ice, literally in those slides! So great to see this interview. Thanks, Dave.

What Carol talked about at the end about goals and plans is significant, and something I understand is not consistent across elite skaters in Canada. If you want to max out your potential as a high-performance athlete, you absolutely must set specific goals and develop a plan to get there i.e. how many points do you want next year and how ae you building your marks? If you're not doing that, the plan has no focus. Skaters like Meagan and Deanna will themselves to the top of the pile doing this. Now, I understand it's the skater's life/money, so they can choose to not be driven by performance and results . But as viewers, we lose interest in the resulting mediocre skating that is the product of whatever effort the athlete chooses to invest. So there's a ripple effect on the overall appeal of the sport that we somehow need to address.

Dave - back in 2014 Meryl and Charlie had Derek Hough help choreograph their SD. Why don’t more skaters use professional dancers/ballroom pros? Do the movements not transfer to the ice? Is it the money? Or do the coaching teams not want to go outside the circle of established choreographers? I know Montreal has Sam Choinard, but I don’t know if he provides more off-ice dance practice.

Canada is just waiting for Eteri Tutberidze, the best coach in the world, to be suspended from work. The haters will not calm down and will not stop calling her names, writing fake news and slander in her direction. Eteri Tutberidze is a unique person. But people like this Canadian subterfuge are trying not only to condemn Camila, but also her coach. After all, every coach knows perfectly well that doping will not help in figure skating. None at all. But in America and Canada they don’t say a word about this. Because it's not profitable. This is depressing.

Carol Lane, the worst commentator on Canadian TV, the biggest bad faith in skating for comments. she had such a nationalist discourse in recent years. She hated Papadakis/Cizeron and made it known in her comments by saying that what they were doing was easy. She never gave them a compliment. She said they chose the "easy" way. I can not stand her
@twinkleplansx

Personally, I agree. While this interview portrays herself as a classy woman, I don't necessarily agree with that. She blocks people who have a different perspective than her. I mean, she blocked me for saying that piper and Paul should go back to Vincent years ago. And when it comes to wuthering heights, there are some good choreography but I also hate some parts of it. It's also funny because pipers and Paul's lifts are also "easy" compared to some of their older lifts.

About time TSL interviewed Carol Lane, she's such an admirable talker and always gives a great interview. I love her, so down to earth and still remembers TV series from before she & Jon left the UK! They are a wonderful team. People who are new to the sport should realise that it was British Ice Dance Coaches going to Canada, like the Lanes and the Bradshaws (who invented the Midnight Blues Compulsory Dance) and Bernard Ford, who laid the foundation for the success of Canadian couples, much like Russian Dance Coaches did in America. Thankfully Bernard's partner Diane Towler stayed in Carol's home city of London, and had a post competitive career Coaching in the UK, putting together Ashlie Slatter & Atl Ongay-Perez aged 7 & 9 to have a stellar International Novice career, now aged 14 & 16, have just won Bronze Medals at the Youth Olympic Games in Korea, (my highlight of the week Dave ❤) proving you don't need to go to Costo to achieve success! They won Britain's 1st Olympic Ice Dance Medal since TorvillandDean! This interview was my 2nd highlight of the week. 🥰

My absolute favorite G/P program is the 2016 freedance, in the red tulip skirt. The music was different and the choreo was cool and contemporary. Over time, I got bored with safer choices but Wurthering Heights takes them back to some mystery. Not crazy in her ending with a t-rex hand but I want different and they deliver. Also, really miss the fascination of different schools. Could use some diversity behind the boards, Fusar-Poli vs. Zoueva vs. Camerlenguo vs. C. Lane vs. IAM etc. It's up to the other schools to catch up and I look forward to it.
