Carpet Stretcher - home made. This plywood float reinforced with a short piece of a 2x4 (as a "stop") has 6 or 7 short strips of carpet "nailer" strips with the protruding nailer "teeth" aligned to dig into the carpet you are trying to stretch. I used a 2x6 by eight feet as the drive piece and with short little bumps of the 2x4 "stop" from the other end of a 2x6 by 8 foot piece of wood and some patience by starting in the center of the room I was able to nicely stretch the carpet toward all four walls. Once all the carpet but the last 3 or 4 feet of carpet in from the perimeter walls has been stretched uniformly, I used a traditional knee kicker to work the perimeter tucking the carpet edges with a putty knife just beyond the "nailer" strips nailed to the floor. Worked astonishingly well. Saved myself a carpet stretcher cost of about $40/day.
