Purchased some slotinvasion float screws. They help greatly with adding some body float. They have a smooth shaft near the screw head so the chassis won’t get caught up on the screw threads. Also if you remove the outer ring where the body mounts on the chassis ensuring a smooth surface when the body shaft contacts it that’ll help.

Does it slide into a bad roll? Car has too low - center of gravity add a nickel to the underside of body. Forward or backward to play with the ballast/balance pf the car. If the car just tips over without a slide = too high center of gravity add weight to the chassis lowest possible to the front half of the chassis. This worked for me hopefully it’ll work for you. Have fun taming that wild mustang.

You should always run in the engine before you do any real track work. I always run my engines in and do 50 laps at a slow speed, before I try any fast racing around the track. Also, FYI: Have you heard of Frankenslot Guides for Carrera cars? These guides will up your game a lot and increase your times and your ability to stay on the track! Cheers! Great video! :)

Me again sorry! I think you said in your video that you didn't know where to get the Quick Slicks from or what size to get. Try slot Car Corner. They have a tire finder, by make, car, and size. i.e 1:32 or 1:24 etc. It's brilliant. Just pick the type of tire you want, Paul Gage or Quick Slicks etc, choose Carrera then what cars you run, 1:32, the specific car and a list will come up with all the tires they have that will fit your car. Simple as A,B,C By the way I'm from Australia and I know you Americans love Quick Slicks, however, just a thought.... You may want to try urethanes, (I use Paul Gage tires). I know QS. you don't have to true, and they clean the track.... but urethanes lay down the rubber and work better without cleaning the track and are better for plastic racks like Carrera. Anyhoo, it's something you may just want to investigate! :) FYI: Link to Slot car Corner for you! slotcarcorner.com/

Great 'tuning talk' Marty :) The crash off of the downhill cambered left hander circa 11:53 is informative. There's no rear grip as the front of the car drops away causing it to sharply oversteer to the right in terms of a forceful spin. This combined with a high c.o.g. causes the guide to rip out of the slot with the 180 deslot we see. As you yourself and others here have observed this may be corrected by better grip tyres and low profile lead weight. All in all these things are 'heavyweight monsters' but they should be fun to race if you can get the balance right.

@@twolinesslotcars figured I would update. I sanded the stock tires and ran the car for about 300 laps on the basic starter track. The car started handling exceedingly well at lower speeds (we are still beginners, so level 1 speed setting) once the tires broke in and I learned it a bit. It definitely handles differently than all 3 of the other cars I have, but I feel like breaking it in some more helped out the car a bunch. I built a 12x8 table for the track, so now I just need to get more track pieces :)

Greetings Marty, enjoy your content. A few observations/comments regarding the video. Mustang GTY tires-I assume that you prefer silicones, but if you’re interested in urethane, I put PGT-21138XLMs on the rear of my GTY. They fit; however, a bit of chassis material shaving/sanding is required for clearance (inside of rear tires will contact the chassis). A question, then comments. As it comes to Carrera cars, especially those with magnets, do you suppose body float offers any appreciable performance improvement? I’ve tried adjusting for float and found that my cars (all Carrera D132 with the rear magnet removed) on my track (not speaking for others) encounter chatter in the tighter corners (2 180 degree turns comprised of 1/60th curve sections) and tend to de-slot easier. Eliminating the float also reduced the behavior. Have you seen the same? To experiment further with float, I took one car and sanded enough of the chassis to ensure it did not contact the body anywhere, I then cut the post hole notches and sanded them flat. I backed off the mounting screws to get a bit of float. I discovered that that one car does take the same corners mentioned above well and the de-slots have been greatly reduced. To be honest, I’m a bit hesitant to give all my cars the same treatment, I’m on a budget and don’t want to risk altering all of my cars and possibly being worse off. Lastly, I would recommend that you place a small piece of tape over the loosened screw holes. I learned the hard way that the screws can work their way out within a few laps. Another poster mentioned slotinvasion float screws, they will secure the body, allow float and eliminate the tendency of stock Carrera screws working themselves free. Any thoughts/comments? I’d like to hear your experiences.

Thomas, What a great comment! I have had really good luck with body float on some cars and other cars don't seem to react as much to it. Great idea about tape over the screws. Losing a screw on the track can cause all sorts of issues. Float screws are a great upgrade. Always check the rules of your local track, some do not allow chassis shaving, special screws, etc. I only race at my track, so it is not a big deal. Thanks again!

This is a poor model for a slot car. The fins behind the tires will absolutely destroy your barriers on corners, and it just slows down the car. Mine came with a short in the wiring that causes it to consistently die on the track. Worst $55 I've probably ever spent. It's a shame the Carrera starter set comes with TWO of these turds, that's just going to turn off consumers from repeat business.
