Carrousel des Mondes Marins, is one of the attractions at 'Les Machines de l'île', an amazing collection of steam-punk ride-on animatronic animals, located in Nantes, France.
Carrousel des Mondes Marins translates as 'Carousel of the Marine Worlds'. It is a 4 tier carousel, with each layer themed to different depths of the sea;
The upper floor includes boats, flying fish, sea horses, and look out for the waves rising from the floor.
The interior of the concrete structure houses the next 2 levels. A series of suspended fish represent creatures living below the surface of the water, while the ground floor features marine life found in the deep sea and on the sea bed, such as squid, crabs etc.
During the ride, 3 of the units on the lower level sink into a 4th level, (the sub, the nautilus, and watch how the yellow box fish folds its tail as it drops into the abyss), which is dark and has projections of underwater scenes.
The detail is phenomenal... each creature is interactive and has several unique movements, many of which are automated when there is no rider present.
Some of the gondolas have several seats, and every rider has plenty of puppeteering to keep their attention. There are so many things to observe, its impossible to note them all!
Editing the video enabled me to see all the footage several times over, and I'm still spotting new things! This is well worth the trip to Nantes.
Video includes on ride POV and off ride footage.
