I worked for a car company 30 years ago and back then they had bad transmission and they still do today, Another company makes bad wire and fuses and starters The Elevator repair man I know has a set up where he runs the same summer city's every year, So he plans his vacations around his work map, He sets the elevators to faily every september 1 to 5 so he fixed 30% this year then another set next year and the last set on the 3 year then he has some set on a 5 year plan. So when he comes here for his week of fishing he resets the timer on all the lifts on his sheet and makes $10,000 for his '' work '' and this is a set yearly income just from the apartments and hospitals and malls in my area, Then he moves onto the next city and the next So he works from May to September and then is of for the rest of the year,

This is planned obsolescence. No doubt. A DPF in a car that does 120k of city kilometers and a lot of idling will definitely have a much harder life than the DPF in a car that is mainly driven at highway speeds. So, relating DPF life to the total driven distance, is a malicious act of the manufacturer. The DPF will stop to regenerate and kill itself, while it could possibly still outlast other critical parts. Why do manufacturers do this? They did not do it for the engine timing components. They could easily limit engine RPM to 2500 when the timing belt reaches its end of life date, so you wouldn't destroy your engine. Well, it's YOUR engine that self-destructs when the timing belt fails. No harm done. You'll get another car. When the DPF is supposed to be not effective anymore, it is the environment that suffers and the environment must be protected at all cost. It's environment protection laws doing this.

You can even see this in some cars if you rev them when you are driving and all the sutt is coming out the exhaust but when you are stationarity they dont produce any sutt

I fail to understand why people choose spending 10s of thousands of pounds on a new car because there's a fault with their old car that requires fixing and they figure the value of an old car that makes it not worth doing. On a new car depreciation alone is going to cost WAY more than most repairs. And that's before you're paying off the finance.

Definitely unfair to the consumer. As you said jimmy the differential pressure will indicate a blocked dpf.Peugeot should not base engine faults on an arbitrary mileage or number of regens. Its plan wrong to do so. A warning is fine. But peogeot go too far in deactivating the regens when the limit has been reached which will cause the dpf to block unnecessarily. Unfortunately i learnt the hard way in 2017 with 131,000 mile peugeot said dpf reached end of life which in 2017 was £887. Three days later the EML was back and Peugeot then said the eoyls was empty so another £227. I am older and wiser now. Currently i am on 227,000 and just via diagbox updated car to say new dpf fitted. So the only time I'll get the DPF fault is it the dpf is truely blocked and it will be flagged via the differential sensor. The conclusion is Peugeot are just fitters and do what the computer says. They are not mechanics and do not fault find. They just throw parts at the computer messsages at your expense.jack Great work Jimmy.

It’s taking the control away from the customers, deliberately. Now if the economy was in good shape people wouldn’t be overly concerned with built in obsolescence as they would simply trade up. When money is tight cars have to be on the road longer. I have just had a problem on a car which ended with a falling out with the garage and a lost sale for them. I actually fixed it myself.

What an absolute con by Peugeot. If this is the 2.0, it's the same engine that's in my 2007 Mondeo Mk4, which has just done 221,000 miles and is still on the original DPF, with a pressure reading of 2mbar at idle and aroind 30 at 3000 rpm. Perfectly fine. There's no need for this at all. Thanks Jimmy for bringing this to light.
@homeistheearth

Does yours also use the eolyse fluid?
@RikAindow
11 ай бұрын
@homeistheearth nope. The mondeo uses a DPF without fluid. It relies on the engine being hot, by way of overfuelling to carry out its regens. Later ones, Euro5, have an injector known as a vaporiser which sprays diesel straight in to the DPF to burn it all off.
@homeistheearth
11 ай бұрын
@@RikAindowok, yes my Citroen c4 gp with the 2.0 hdi also uses postinjections with the injectors and use the glowplugs to raise temp. The eolyse is a fluid i think is some iron based toxic stuff, they claim it will get stuck in the dpf, so i actually changed it, but saved the old, as i could not find a clear answer if it could be cleaned. But the service time is 180000 km -

I wonder if you could make a small hole through the DPF, so that it still shows enough pressure drop across it and the ECU will think that it's working properly?
@jimmyk2001
Жыл бұрын
The reason this happens is PSA vehicles use a wet DPF setup that injects eolys fluid into the fuel tank everytime fuel is added to the tank, eolys is essentially cerium oxide which allows a much cleaner combustion and lower temperatures for regeneration, unfortunately one of the side effects of using eolys is over time it does reduce the effectiveness of the DPF and eventually it will no longer be effective in stopping soot emission, this is why the car states its full of additive, now resetting the ECU to tell it thats it been replaced will work fine but the issue with this is its still going to be full of ash and due to the wear on the precious metals from the eolys additive it wont be as effective and will end up getting saturated more often and will regenerate more often, in turn contaminating the oil and increased wear on the engine, how bad this will be who knows, this fix does work but may have risks attached
