Always thought his hi hat skills were crazy! I honestly think I got a lot of my hi hat skills from watching him over the years. He's one of The best for sure! Very tight crisp sound

Im digging the open right technique with the rides on the left of a right handed set, definetly gives him an advantage on the back beats.

Sheila Norris It all comes from playing on both sides of the kit in my opinion. Versatility goes through the roof if you can play on one side and then successfully transition to the other side . Opens up your playing big time .

This is absolutely Carter’s signature by far when it comes to his playing: syncopated rhythms on the hi hat. It’s easier said than done . That’s for sure .

Tim 'Herb' Alexander from Primus has a similar funk-inspired sound (albeit a bit more heavy) on the Frizzle Fry album. Check out their song 'Mr. Knowitall' for an example.

Is he left handed? His kit is set up for right hand but he leads the down beat with his left hand, which can be a challenging exercise for someone who's right handed.
@notaness

He is actually an open handed drummer, which is usually the result of a left handed drummer learning to play on a right handed kit from a Early age..

The Union Beats - Both. Just depends on what he’s doing with his other foot.

best guess, his heel is probably resting and controlling how open the hats are when he's playing the has with his hands, but when he's keeping time with his foot, I'd place money he's using heel up.

As much as he can fluidly, and in the blink of an eye transition to-from-to-from the double bass/hat pedals, it’s seriously hard to tell. He’s a percussion magician, that’s for sure!

@greggry4883
5 жыл бұрын
@Gavin Haney You really don't know that? Drummers cross their hands for the same reason they always write or play tennis with the same hand . The other one is much weaker and sloppier. Carter is one of the lucky few born with two right hands as it were. Are you one of them?

If I remember right, I think her said his dad had taken him to see drummers, and whilewatching them he would try and mimic them, but like a mirrored way, so he was playing left hand lead. So when he finally sat down behind a drum kit, he was used to using hide left hand lead as the drum set was set up right handed. The story is something like that.
