Have a look at the CandleBoom handmade craft on an international scale - skillful makers from Yekaterinburg turn candles into a work of art. What it takes is pretty simple - knowing hands and no secrets at all! Well, almost. People from all across the country and even from other distant places in the world come here to learn and master this amazing skill.
CandleBoom start-uppers performed the first order of 120 candles in December, 2008. From that day since a small workshop turned into a big factory with four production sites. The catalogue consists of more than 500 designs that were made up by the owners themselves. Yet each new candle is exclusive and unique as it was handmade. Candles are transported worldwide.
The process of making a candle consists of several stages. A silicone mold in the shape of a 6- or 8-ray star with a wick inside is filled with hot paraffin and stearin mix. It takes 5 to 10 hours for a candle to cool off and freeze. Then it takes colorful baths, or professionally put - dipped into different colors. The number of colored layers can vary from 20 to 45. After that the master moves on to the most important step - carving the candle. You only have less than half an hour to do that, because cold paraffin is impossible to be carved.
Using candles for decoration is very popular in Europe. According to an opinion poll, young people are more likely to do so. The fact that Ural crafters managed to create a successful business in this sphere is more of an exclusion that a rule. Each month the factory produces from 2 to 10 thousand candles. The high demand season starts in the middle of September and lingers until the end of December.
