Thank you! They were easy to create and turned out exactly how I had hoped. A suitable backdrop for a diorama!

It is nice how you left some of the white of the styrofoam show rather than doing a solid wash. Looks more realistic that way.

Hi Thea Thanks for sharing your skill. When you made the mountains, how thick was your expanded form board? Thanks Michele

Hi Michele the foam board is one inch or 2.5 cm thick. The carving is not too deep, more like bas relief. Hope that helps.

Is the spackling for texture or making the mountain sturdy?
@TheasChristmasVillages
19 күн бұрын
Hi Heather, the spackling is applied to give the styrofoam a better base for painting,. If you apply paint directly to the styrofoam, it tends to soak in and disappear. The texture the spackling leaves is also beneficial, makes the "mountain" look more realistic. Hope that helps.
Hello! The spackling adds a realistic stony look to the styrofoam. As well, painting the styrofoam without spackling is difficult, paint will soak in and not look right. Spackling is easier than using plaster but gives the same effect.

Thea, I wanted to ask your reason for you using spackling. Thanks
@TheasChristmasVillages

Hi Michele: I use sparkling because it acts like a plaster coating and gives good definition to the strata created by scoring the styrofoam. It holds the styrofoam together and creates a good base for painting. Prevents the paint from soaking into the styrofoam. Hope that helps!
