As I walk the streets of this city I fall more and more in love with this place. But now that I am also getting to know its people, I realize that THAT is the true value of this country. Their people.
Shortly after making the video of the JARDÍN DEL ARTE, one of the excellent painters interviewed, ANGÉLICA GOMEZ, sent me a message that said. "I know it is nothing commercial or touristy, but a group of people are going to help in a foster home for disabled and abandoned children. Would you like to come and do a report to give visibility to the work they do there? I would appreciate it.
He had little more to say to prepare me to go to LA CASA HOGAR LA DIVINA PROVIDENCIA. An hour and a half by car from Mexico City, founded and run by MOTHER INÉS, more than 70 years ago. She herself laid the bricks for the first building of this home, which was knocked down by the first storm that occurred, staying out in the open with the children for some time. But she insisted and managed to make what she dreamed a reality, create a home to help those who need it most.
The 94-year-old mother Ines tells me, at the end of our conversation, that I surely went to see them to remember it all my life. I have to tell you mother that, it's true. The visit to the Casa Hogar has marked me forever.
It is possible that my contribution is insignificant, sure, but if I manage to make the existence of the people who work in foster homes like this one a little more visible, with total dedication to others, I am satisfied.
Just arriving at the Casa Hogar they thank me for my visit and the help I give them making the video.
And I must tell you that I am the one grateful for letting me enter your world, show it to me, make me participate and change something within me. For giving me a life lesson, for making me rethink my values and priorities.
I have cut very little of everything that I recorded that day, I wanted to make a testimony without there being any kind of incidence on my part.
I apologize for not having a more professional team so that the sound and picture were better.
As Angélica says, "Why does the news about Mexico always have to be crime, violence and not people like this who need us?"
I know that I cannot ask you to see it until the end, not even to see it. You may not be reading these words either. But just that one of you reaches out and makes you feel what I felt that day is enough for me.
