A few bits of advice. 1) To help with the amount of water flow and to help reduce the amount of pressure on the motor of the filter measure the amount of hose it takes to go from the filter to the inlet/outlet then add about 4 inches and cut off the excess hose. 2) add water just past the top of the spray bar. Then angle the spray bar so it creates a medium to strong ripple on the surface of the water. This will produce current that will help move more dirty water to the filters intake. 3) add a inch or so of pea gravel ( this can be purchased much cheaper at a home improvement center like Lowe’s or Home Depot for much less than at a pet shop). The gravel will allow extra places for beneficial bacteria to colonize and thus help break down ammonia. The gravel can be gravel vacuumed once a week or every other week to help remove any waist it collected. The waist water can be used in your house plants. 4) you can buy filter foam or filter sponge in bulk and using a filter tray as a template cut your own filter media at a fraction of the cost. I hope this advice helps. Good luck with your aquarium and your filter.

I just installed my Cascade 1500. Couldn't prime it by pushing the button alone. I was going to use another filter pump to push water up the intake, but I was instead able to put the intake upside down in the water to fill it, then I covered the intake with my thumb while flipping it over to normal position. I then started pressing the priming button and it worked easily. The filter makes more noise than I imagined it would. I tried getting as much air as I could, so I'm not sure yet if the amount of noise is normal. I'm not sure if I should try to get the water level even higher in the filter. Definitely not as quiet as some reviews make it out to be.

Alright, so I switched to the Penn Plax 1000 not long ago cuz I got tired of having to clean the Turle Tank so much when the water turned green. I figured this canister filter would help with keeping the water stay clean like how it usually is after a water change. Is there any advice you can give me on how to maintain that clear water you have in the video?

Hey there...my apologies for the delayed response. I have a large tank so what has helped me tremendously is actually having two pumps running simultaneously. It is literally a life and time saver...lol. But before I had the two filters, I had to clean it more often. There is a product called Accu-Clear by API that I have used before, but honestly having the two filters was the best for me. It takes a lot to have to keep cleaning up after them...lol. Thanks for tuning in. The product I mentioned is linked in my description box. You would have to read up on it to see if suitable for your turtle. If it is please support the channel by shopping using my affiliate link. I'd greatly appreciate it. I wish you all the best. Keep me updated. Much love 💕

Keep in mind you are dealing with turtles and not fish. Also I feed my turtles in 3 tubs with their tank water, then replace the water. I think my babies poop the volume of their tail twice a day with their breakfast and dinner schedule. But hey. If they are pooping a lot then they are happy. Its when they don't eat or poop that scares me. The first tub of 1/2 gallon of tank water is for the first 20 minute minute feeding. They poop a lot and then stop eating. I think its the foul water. I transfer them to the second tub with tank water with food. They eat and poop more for another 10 minutes. The third 1/2 gallon tub is for their final poop and pee tub. I leave them there for 30 minutes. It takes about an hour or more for the process. On a daily basis I may see one poop in the tank and the fiber filter is quite clear. I rinse mine every 5 days. I will stretch it out over time, but I'm worried about infections. Everything with turtles is preventative. Once your turtle stops eating or pooping, then its hard to recover from that. In terms of infections. I'm using Melafix for bacterial infections every day. So far after 90 days my babies are not showing any signs of fungus or disease that killed my other snappers in one week. I hope your successful.

I believe so as there are many different ways to place the media. When I first started, I didn't have the bio media balls at all. Every time I do a water and filter cleaning my process improves. @ugoogalee
5 жыл бұрын
@@mclynnbanks nope. the biological media (ceramic) should be as far from the dirty bits as possible. The mechanical media is filtering the physical bits of fish poop at the bottom, so the biological media should be at the top (carbon in the middle). If the biological media gets clogged up by physical bits, it wont have the pores available for beneficial bacteria to get in there. Ideally, you would have very "clean" water running through the biological media. I would recommend looking at the "Pondguru" channel here on youtube, he has lots of good videos on canister filters and methods
@CoreyDeMerchant

Setting the canister up like this is counterintuitive/ problematic. The best way to set it up for maximum efficiency would be to place the ceramic rings on the bottom, place your mechanical filtration ( layered coarse, medium and fine sponges or pads. Then use a high quality bio media such as Biohome, pure Pumice or Marine Pure. A media that will allow for the colonization of both types of helpful bacteria. 1) Placing anything on top of a filtration pad cause the cores in the pad to condense and you lose water flow and the ability to maximize the materials ability to filter properly. 2) placing anything above your biological media causes your bio media to clog prematurely and allows for the production of excessive nitrates that the media won’t be able to convert. I hope this helps. You and also google ( The Pondguru ) pimp my filter. He explains it the best. I hope this helps. Good luck with your aquarium and your filter.

🤔 to set this filter up for maximum efficiency and to achieve the complete biological cycle ( break down of ammonia, nitrate and nitrate) In the first ( bottom ) basket layer coarse, medium and fine filter padding/foams. Then in the other baskets use biological media such as Biohome or pumice. OR if you want to just only clean out the filter occasionally and just have visibly clean water THEN In the bottom basket use the bio rings to act as a settlement chamber. Then fill the second basket put coarse foam / filter padding Then halfway fill the 3rd basket/top basket with the fine filter padding / foam . Place the carbon on top of the fine filter pad. In either case to prime the filter fill it up 3/4-4/5 of the way with water then put the top back on. Use the primer to fill it the rest of the way, it should be easier to prime and take a much shorter amount of time. You can buy filter foam or filter floss on amazon.com in bulk which is much more cost effect then buying brand name Filtration media.
