It's why it's a well-filmed scene. It ensures that anyone watching can feel the tension, even if it's not realistic. The way the dealer handles the cards in particular is absolutely wrong, but it ensures the audience knows what's up.

Realistically, this poker scene is totally fake, but it's Hollywood, so what do you expect?
@vapourmile
Жыл бұрын
It's dramatized and you don't have a dealer going to such pains to explain each hand... that's just so the filmmakers can be fairly sure the audience know what's going on. The short of it is that you see the bad guy has a full house so before you even look at Bond's hand you know he has to have the 5 and 7 of spades because a straight flush is the only hand he can make which will beat the full house. If it was a real situation the bad guy would know the chance bond actually has those cards is so small that the bad guy should be safer to assume Bond can't win than lose the hand with so much money on the table. So, under those conditions the bad guy makes the right choice but still loses thanks to a very small chance. Of course, that's classic Hollywood: give the good guys an infinitesimally small chance of winning but still let them win, usually by the narrowest of margins.

@@jamesbell1613 Well, it was a private event at a casino, the buy-ins didn't include a house fee, and their buy-in amount exactly equaled their starting chip count. So it's entirely possible the casino was using money chips rather than buying a bunch of large denom tournament chips for a one-time event.

If you would have a straight flush and you would KNOW, that you have the highest hand at that moment, wouldnt you go all in? Especially after everyone went all in aswell?
@Zombihilanth
7 жыл бұрын
Sure, that makes sense but think of it like this. When you play poker the side pot is determined first and the person who raised is supposed to show first. So the order of people showing would be backwards, Bond first then Chiffre then asian man then fat man, but seeing as how Bond would go first everyone would know he has the nuts so then they would just fold and not even show. Also note that he knocked over his stack when he bet, which is rude and would cause the dealer visual discomfort. Also getting past preflop with 57 is ridiculous, considering theres pocket 8s which would have probably raised and 5 7 should not have called the raise.

Well, it depends from personal insight - if You have some math problems it may took longer to succesfuly finish dealing course which is - of course - essential if You want to have a license. Whole work is mostly counting (multiplying and dividing by heart), you need to know how -much - for example - 12 X 350 + 39 X 22 is. What's more, people playing in casinos are somehow "Pro" already in that counting too, so they will be strict and impatient for You, especialy if You are still on novize level. In the other hand You earn good money + lot of parties with nice woman (it may depends from the very place You are currently hired in).

"I'm sorry. That last hand... nearly killed me." Saw this in the theater years ago and it got such a good laugh from the audience when he said that. That's one way for casually saying "F**k you" to the bad guy.

You're perfectly right. Although if you notice at the end, when he recieves the tip, which is properly around $500000, he just skews it over to the other hand. I see this a very controlled small outburst of joy. Amazing direction and detail.

The only thing he did wrong was playing the players cards into the table hand - no poker dealer ever does that they leave the table cards as they are and just confirm what the other person has

I still love this scene and as a kid this was always one of my favorite moments, but I laugh at the thought of anything like this ever being possible in reality. The odds are so astronomical that it ever happening would’ve the craziest poker hang of all time. A straight flush over a full house over another full house over a flush. Edit: didn’t mean to start a war here Mads said himself said the directors made crazy hands so audience could feel involved
