Took me right back to the 1980s classrooms of my youth. I remember other melody watches too, not everyone could afford Casio. Its only when you think back that you realise how simple life was and how much more complicated it gets when you become an adult.

My dad gave me this watch when I was young at school. I loved it, and the most memorable thing for me was toggling through as shown in 7:38 and the notes coming back down again. Sadly I think a week after he gave it to me I fell off a chair (I was balancing on it) and it flew off my wrist and completely smashed the screen. I was and still am absolutely gutted about it. I received this watch for Christmas in 1981 (it was black plastic though) and fell in love with it instantly. I inadvertently broke the buttons in the process of changing the battery a year later, sent the watch back to Casio, and they repaired it free of charge. Such a great watch, I still have it though the watchband has perished and the buttons are broken again. Thank you for posting this wonderfully memory-evoking video!

Thanks for the memories! So many of these comments are about having one as a kid; me too. I don't remember the exact year but I probably got it when I was around 12 years old. I had forgotten what some of the songs were, but I had still remembered most of what this watch sounded like. Mine probably ran for about 2 years before it stopped working. I took it to a local shop, and the guy said he needed to replace the "battery clip." Apparently, those were hard to find. Either that, or he was very forgetful because he was quite old by then. He was such a nice guy I let him hold on to it for ages while I checked back every so often, but he could never get the parts. I stuck it in a drawer for many years and eventually sold it (not working) in the estate auction when my parents passed. But I'm so, so glad I could hear it again in this video!

My first LCD digital watch (I did have analogue digital and LED digital watches prior to it) was by some unknown brand. It was mail order from a magazine. It’s claim to fame, and what attracted me to it, was it’s solar panel above the display that was supposed to help power it. But still, like most digital watches at the time, the battery went dead after about a year. That ‘solar panel’ was most likely just decorative 😆

Sadly my history teacher took it away because I let all the girls play with it. It was a very good investment to have girls around me though. Though back then, almost a $100.00, was A LOT of money for a watch, and I was just going into high school. I would love to buy the watch once again, for nostalgia reasons alone, but it's so damn expensive on eBay. They go for around $400 to $800.00 right now. Say what????? Crazy huh?
