I had one of these back in the 90s, and my audio died too. Wish I still had it. I'd guess bad capacitors or a faulty transistor in the audio circuit. Lots of bad caps made it into consumer goods in the late 80s and early 90s.

Nice. What sort of cable did you use to get such good video quality? Singular yellow composite? That's my main concern for my tv-2000. I tried a stereo composite 3.5mm cable (to 3way RCA on my ps2) and it barely worked, seems like the 3.5mm plug was too long. Audio is not a concern as I can have that outputted to my car speakers.

Ok just did some experimenting and I can get much better video but only with L or R audio. Basically just had to switch up the connections. Yellow output into red input.. then red/white audio output into yellow. Looks like a mono composite RCA cable (red/wht) might be the trick.

It’s also possible that there’s a few leaking capacitors inside that could affect things like sound.

Hi Andrew, did you get it working? My guess is that you have the wrong cable. Do you get any white noise with the cable unplugged? If so, the sound works and the cable is shorting the sound. A mono audio video cable may be hard to find but you could use a stereo av cable (3.5mm to yellow, white and red rca plugs) and a stereo to mono adapter. Or you could try connecting you vcr rf output to the external antenna socket or the antenna with an f to f coax cable and either a mono 3.5mm plug to f socket adapter or an alligator clip lead and then tune it in. Using the av jack will probably give the best sound and picture quality. Hope that helps. Looking at maybe buying something like this myself for some fun and nostalgia. I used to have a second hand TV-21 black and white one when I was a kid. Good luck. Shane

Thanks. I haven't tried it yet. But I plan on it. I have picture just fine, but no sound at all. Even when playing by itself. I carefully removed the back cover to see if there was any damage to the unit. There wasn't any.

That TV doesn't have a speaker. You need headphones.
