Casiopea did prioritize entertaining the crowd, which is why a lot of their have the crowd interact with them. Like shouting, clapping, and phrases. Or they are dancing on stage. But a little cherry on top is that their all absolutely badass at their instruments

It makes me so happy to see that. I wondered why I was starting to see so many Gen Z's commenting on Casiopea vids on YT until someone showed me the screencap of the guy's vinyl/tea story. I've dug 70's/80's smooth jazz, jazz fusion, funk jazz, etc. for years and stumbled upon Casiopea a while back. I now have "4x4" and "Eyes of the Mind" on vinyl. I really want "Mint Jams" but the internet popularity has driven the price up. I'm just happy to see younger people digging on cool old music. Check out some old instrumentals by Bob James, Idris Muhammad, or Grover Washington Jr. sometime. Not the same, but not too far different. Happy listening!

I seriously think this is my all time favourite Issei Noro solo ever. Seriously. Casiopea just knew how to put so much emotion behind just instruments and it truly shines here. 2:33 is probably the most beautiful thing I've ever heard ngl. Like this just throws me into a whirlwind of happy emotions and love. I hope I can share this with someone someday

There are songs that came way long before that and they always seem to surprise.
I'm a guitarist and played on the same stage with Casiopea back in the early 80's when I was in the Air Force and stationed in Okinawa Japan. It was during the Suntory Beer Jazz Festival. I performed with a local big band jazz orchestra. It wasn't really my thing; I preferred playing fusion which was very popular back then. But it was a way to play at that gig and a great experience being the only American in the whole show. I remember walking past Casiopea’s guitarist's setup which included a fret-less guitar. They had Yamaha everything. Although technically good players I wasn't really impressed with these guys and they were a bit stuck up. A much better Japanese group which I was able to jam with at Jirokichi’s in Tokyo was Native Son, featuring late pianist Takehiro Honda and guitarist Motonobu Ohde. Those guys were some of Japan's best at fusion and straight ahead jazz. They weren't flashy and choreographed like Casiopea but just great musicians. Kazumi Watanabe's band was excellent too, probably the best. Kazumi was a pretty humble player with ridiculous chops. I miss those days and all the fun I had meeting and jamming with those musicians.

Céus! O baixista Tetsuo Sakurai, historicamente um dos melhores deste instrumento no Japão, aqui nos seus mais felizes anos... Tem excesso de virtuosismo aqui, de todos os membros!
Well, if you go back in time you will see that music took three steps back when that garbage called "techno" and whatever else came out starting in the 1990s. Then it all took another several steps back as the decades rolled on.. and now we have Gen Z "discovering" this music and calling it the best thing since sliced bread. I grew up in the decade when this was out.. Current music SUCKS! That's why we listen to this stuff. There's a whole world of excellent Japanese music like this out there... if you look hard enough!
