Great idea mounting a sensor to the grey tank. I've been trying to gestimate my propane I think it's time for a set of sensors thanks for the video.

We will pick up our casita independence in September, but I was told you couldn’t put a sensor under the grey tank. Did you have to remove a panel first?

@@gahammy I have an independence, the grey tank is in plain view under the trailer. The black tank is the one that is covered up. Can't see it unless you remove structure, toilet.

@@gahammy no, our tank is open on the bottom. We do not have a cover on the bottom of the trailer.

Thanks! Installed a couple of these today. One step I might recommend - do the sync/zero process with the Mopeka device to make sure you've got it placed correctly. *Then* drop the cage/holder around it so that you know you've got it well centered.

Do you know of any sensors that would measure fresh water tank levels?
@CasitaRvLife
Жыл бұрын
I know there are several gauge systems on the market for water tanks but I have not looked for any of them. I can see the level in my fresh water tank by looking through the side access door on the trailer. I am sorry I could not help you more.

Your videos are amazing, we are picking up a 2022 Independence Delux on Monday and have learned so much watching your content. Do you think this sensor will work for the black tank as well? Or is there a different black tank monitoring system you recommend?
@CasitaRvLife

The sensor will not work on the black tank. The black tank is inside the fiberglass shell so there is no access to place the sensor. The only way to monitor the black tank is to look down in the toilet. I know this is not preferred but I don’t know of any other way.

Looks like you’ve got an unusually large/tall propane tank. What size is that and if they are in fact larger than the standard 20lb, how do you attach/hold them to camper? Also, just curious what the actual real life, pragmatic value/purpose really is for the gray tank sensor? Does it change your behavior in any meaningful way? In other words, if it’s full or near full, it is what it is, right? Presumably you pretty much know from experience how long you can boondock - if you’re not allowed to dump gray water where you are - and when you need to dump. And if you’re at a campground you’ll most likely be hooked up to sewer. Moreover, you also know about what you’re gray tank level is by knowing your fresh water tank capacity. In my case, it’s almost the same. So I know when I’m low on fresh water I’m about four gallons away from gray tank being full. Finally, you also know when you’re full when your shower stops draining! I guess what I’m driving at is that our Casita tanks are so small, precise measuring devices don’t seem that helpful; which is probably why they don’t come with level indicators. On separate note, and notwithstanding the foregoing, would these work on a black tank? Thanks a lot!

My propane tanks are 20lb. The cover and mount that came with the trailer will hold the 30lb tanks but I don't think we need them. The gray water tank sensor is great when we are camping in state parks. A lot of the state parks only have electric and water sites but no sewer. Since we are using the park water I can't gauge my usage by the fresh water tank. This is a quick way to monitor it and know when it is time to use my dump tank to empty it. If we are boondocking or at a park with full hookups it is not needed much. These sensor will not work on the black tank. I just look down the toilet to gauge that.

@@CasitaRvLife Interesting about the tanks size. Wish mine came with 30lb capacity. I already have trouble with the screw mount thing as it is with the 20 lb tanks. That thing is terribly designed for many reasons. The main ones being the long screw thing I just described, which is too short, and the second is that the splitter piece is placed in such a way as to impede and push into the pigtail connections - so that they can’t extend straight out and thus pressure is forced upon them making leaks much more likely. If that makes sense?
"Sonic Grease" is just the name Mopeka has given to the contact grease they use. The sensor work by using ultrasound waves to determine the depth of the water in the tanks. The grease helps provide a good contact with the tank to allow the ultrasound waves to travel into the tank and provide a more accurate reading.
