I tried it and it turned out delicious, only trouble I ran into was after chilling it for the hour, was rolling it out and it stuck to the parchment paper... ended up scraping it off and rolling it out on counter with flour. The Vodka I used in the crust was a Mini Smirnoff caramel vodka, and Mini Chila Cinnamon Cream Rum in the mix. very happy and everyone loved it. (Used a Lodge 3 notch #7) Thanks for sharing this!

bravo modemac!! pecan pie was and still is a favorite holiday confection in my family from thanksgiving till new years, that is when my sister still makes them. my mom used to put crushed pecan in with the filling and it made all the difference in the world. the way you use alcohol is downright intriguing, and of course, who else would bake it in a cast iron. while i almost hate to say it, your pie might be way better than even my mom's old recipe. you've got my mouth watering for some pie to go with the coffee i'm sipping. terrific job, you have a gift for the delightful surprise!!!!

Eric, you are my cast iron soul mate! When I first saw the thumbnail I thought it was so similar to one of my dessert photos. I knew I had to watch right away! Hahaha! I love topping the entire surface with picture perfect pecans because they are my favorite nuts. For the pecans you crush for the filling, toast them in the oven before crushing. Just place on dry skillet in single layer. 350 degrees until you smell them, about ten minutes. (You probably already know how to toast nuts, but just in case someone watching doesn't know.) I put them in to toast when I start "preheating" the oven. They don't need to go into a hot oven. Let them cool completely after removing from oven before adding to mixture. Adds so much yummy flavor! Love, love, love this video, Eric!

Thanks for the great recipe vid! We made this today, in a #7 BSR skillet. It turned out great! Didn't have any rum to put in it, maybe next time.

I'm not a big pie fan. Chocolate pie is about the only thing I like, but I'm a huge cast iron fan so I always watch. That pie crust recipe looks great! Maybe some moonshine in my next chocolate pie?!!

How do you store your pie? At room temp? What if you want to make a pie that will need refrigerated after?

The Humble Peach Transfer it to another plate before we putting it in the fridge. :). A pecan pie will last all day at room temperature.

A #8 skillet is a 10-inch skillet (technically 10.25 inches), and a #5 skillet is 8 inches.
