I also really love how Richard Madden subtly portrays the truly deceitful, indifferent, manipulative, and unfaithful nature of John Reid’s feelings in regards to Elton John in this scene. Yes, Elton does kiss that one male waiter on the cheek, but that was more of a playful gesture of gratitude, rather than a legitimate act of flirtation. Not to mention, he was coked out of his mind at this point. On the other hand, you can subtly see John blatantly flirting with other men when Elton isn’t looking at him a few times. He snaps and points his fingers sideways at the waiter after he gives him a glass of some alcohol to drink in the opening verse of this song when Elton isn’t looking directly at him, as if to say “Thanks, hottie! Call me sometime!” When he and Elton are in the club partying, Elton’s getting high off coke in the main focus on screen, but in the periphery on the side of the screen you can vaguely see John Reid dancing closely with another man. Of course, it doesn’t always automatically mean someone is cheating on their partner if they dance with someone else. It can be a perfectly innocent thing between family members, two friends, partners paired up together in a dance class or play. However, within the context of this scene, it’s clear that John Reid is flirting with that other man at the bar by approaching him to dance. John approaches the man to dance at the club first when Elton is getting coked up out of his mind. A truly faithful and loving relatively sober partner in Reid’s shoes with Elton in that club scene would be focusing all their attention on their obviously unwell s/o in a situation in which they were getting very high off incredibly dangerous illegal drugs. Instead, Reid is blowing Elton off when he’s destroying his health, so he can go and dance and flirt with another random man at the club.

One of the best scenes of the film - cover is great and the scene is so well shot, I'd take this over Bohemian Rhapsody I think

@@acab9120 Very true. For me Bohemian Rhapsody's great with comedy and character interactions among the 4 band members while Rocketman nails the cinematography and covers to the point it feels like a high production Broadway Musical. I love both

well I don't take Bohemian Rhapsody over with this film but I like them with Rami who plays Freddie in it and for Rocket man I like Taron who plays Elton in it Bohemian Rhapsody is based on Rocket man and for Rocket man was made from Bohemian Rhapsody because they are true films about Freddie Mercury and Elton john and for Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocket man film are telling us the Story and facts about them in real life

I love the staging of this scene so much, it feels like a stage musical! Very cleverly done, you can see a lot of work went into it. I don't remember seeing that second half though, when they go inside the doll house! I think it was cut from the version of the movie that I saw.

When I saw this in the theater, I was literally fangirling the whole time at Taron and Richard's chemistry during this song! It was so cute even despite the fact that John Reid was being manipulative. This is why the music in this movie is so nuanced!
