The micro projectors and retroreflective material are quite a neat idea. That looks quite an intriguing technology altogether.

Jeri sure knows her stuff, it's beautifully designed. Futureproof, robust, and I don't mind the plastic and hotglue at all. The tech is solid! Thanks for uploading Mike!

So Jeri and Rick were very hesitant to show us how the "sausage" was made for fear of being copied by competition, but it looks like Mike's cracked the casing wide open and analyzed all the components to a very fine technical degree. Impressive. I'd be interested to see a WirelessHD or WiGig consumer version in the future, which should reduce the weight of the cabling on the headset.

Retro-reflective sheeting have small glass bids sandwiched between two layers. The upper layer is transparent. Prismatic sheeting have real prisms. We usually use lot's of this material at work to create road signs. 3M and other manufacturers provide special magnifiers to inspect the density and shape of glass bids.

Ali Mirjamali One more point for space lovers. There are 5 retro-reflectors on the moon. 3 placed by US Apollo program and 2 by Soviet Union. Those are used to measure earth-moon distance by laser.

Got to meet Jeri and try out her prototype last year. Pretty impressive "In-person". She had a physical 3D printed gear that would mesh with a virtual gear . . . the impressive part is that you could move your head and see them turning in real time 3D seamlessly meshed. plus.google.com/u/0/photos?pid=6141333238980053698&oid=102250433590250377468

Sadly CastAR went belly-up... makes me really sad because Jeri put her heart and soul into this product/technology. And I cannot believe that one of the big companies didn't buy them up for the technology/expertise (for example, Apple with their new augmented reality tech!!!)

The AR future should be untethered from a PC. This is basically an hdmi passthru device with novel optics, which limits the utility/value of the thing. Hate to say it, but I think Tilt 5 will follow suit and fail to find a market

Just looked the project up. It is dead. Company shut down last year. Might explain why she went into hiatus which is rather sad. But that is the problem for anything built on investment. They will always want their money back.

Great video as usual... I've been playing with some retroreflective spray from Albedo100 which would probably let you use the CastAR's on any surface. FYI: recently Volvo have been doing advertising re: improving safety for cyclists and trial flogging a product they call LifePaint (www.volvolifepaint.com) which is made by Albedo100. Not cheap but very effective. They also do a version for spraying on Horses and dogs !!! (www.albedo100.co.uk)

This looks rather interesting! Here in Germany at my university we research the use of augmented reality as a possible use in industry 4.0. The idea is, that a worker may assemble certain parts, without being trained to do it in this specific way or with these special custom features. Because in industry 4.0 they want to reach prototype-like individuality, but at pricing of serial production. So augmented reality might be a possible solution, even for more untrained workers to do the job, or as help for elderly or disabled workers to get a better paid job.
