There is actually a possible explanation for how the kid knew so much about Ruth and her Husband relationship. In episode 5 right before the kid is released from prison he sits down to watch the rehab video about how to go from living in jail/prison to normal society again and the guy in the video mentions "..you can be almost any one you want to be if you adapt to your new surroundings." And then in episode 6 we see the kid looking through Matthew's belongings. Clothes; even wearing his suit, old letters in the mail, etc.. Then later in the episode Henry walks in on the kid watching the Deaver family's home videos. He could have easily learned all the things he stated he knew in this episode assuming all those things were recorded on the home videos and where ever else he could get that information. He told Alan he could help Ruth, I think the kid was just trying to become a comfortable person for Ruth to be around by learning the things that Matthew did for her and her personal preferences/routines. I believe he was genuinely trying to help.

I was thinking the same! The rehab video can't be without some significance! If you notice, everytime we see the kid and there is music, the lyrics are always about loneliness and sadness. He knows he can't approach anyone because he has this kind of power, a curse, I'd say, that wherever he goes he only brings destruction and pain and violence. But he's not completely evil, he's just made this way. You can see his regret when he's standing on the roof, hearing all those voices, and when Alan finds him bleeding and he says "why would you leave me in that truck?". He wants connection but he can't have it. And when he gets out of prison I think that, just for a moment, he truly believes there's a possibility for him, that he can reshape his destiny, therefore he LITERALLY follows the rehab video's advice, because he simply doesn't know how to behave like a normal person. He's been cut off from society and I don't think he even understands the meaning of it.

And there is also the element of revenge, for leaving him at Lacy's mercy, in making Ruth kill Alan, but not the revenge of an evil mastermind. It's childish and followed by regret. He's "just a kid", after all.

1.Thank you for digging deeper with your reviews. 2.This episode was beautiful and so sad. It really gave me some new perspective on dementia by watching Sissy's incredible performance. My grandmother suffers from sundowners and diagnosed with Dementia 3 months ago and this episode reminded me of some of her behavior. My takeaway is that she's not really going crazy she's just weaving back and forth through her timeline. She has moments of confusion and she quickly snaps out of it when we talk to her sharper than moments before. This episode was right on time with dealing with that for me. 3.I was nervous the whole time watching because I had it in my mind that Ruth and Wendell were on the receiving end of all that blood left on the 6th episode knowing how the Kid operates from previous episodes. But seeing how this episode played out was terribly heart wrenching, I knew once Ruth had the bullets the wrong person was going to be killed, thank God she told Wendell to go to the mall. Damn this show got me weeping again. First Dennis now Alan. Damn I hope Henry is ok.

I feel like "the kid" just brings out people's inner selves a bit more. I mean, Zalewski pretty clearly wanted to do something about the other guards at Shawshank, and he just ended up doing something really severe...lol. And Ruth has always had these flashbacks, but they were really severe in this episode and so were her other symptoms, I'd imagine. Also, "the kid" didn't touch that family having a birthday party, but maybe just being near them was enough to exacerbate their inner feelings. You know? Those are my thoughts. :) Good series, I love how in depth you get. (EDIT: Also, maybe that Nazi "the kid" killed already had tumors and "the kid" just exacerbated them. And also, Henry had the ringing in his ears since he was a teenager, but now it is also exacerbated. Maybe that's also the effect of "the kid."

BLZ Bubba that's a definite possibility. But I also think that we know that "the kid" can affect others from afar, based on that scene with the mouse dying as "the kid" looked at it. Also ALSO, however, we know the kid can sense what's going on in town without actually seeing all the tragedies, based on the sounds he seemed to hear on the roof top. So I could believe either theory, that he was seeing the past or that he was affecting the birthday family.

Just a small thing I noticed, do you see how often the word *"boat"* is mentioned in the series? When Molly is preparing for her presentation in Local Color, she mistakenly says "Castle Rock has excellent boats" instead of "bones" and corrects herself. When Henry is talking with Nick in Shawshank in the same episode, he says "You can turn this whole place into your boat garage." which seems to gain Nick's interest as he repeats "Boats?" In Harvest the first word Henry has to repeat is "boat". Later in that episode there is a flashback of Lacy quoting the Bible, the part where God tells Noah how to build the Ark, which is kind of a boat. The lyrics of what Nick plays on the piano sing about the flood. And this may not really be connected to this, but Ruth has a lot of knowledge about Vikings who were known to be great sailors and build great ships. Is that foreshadowing of what will happen in the seasons' finale, some kind of a flood? Or is it just the writers messing with us or it's not connected at all?

This episode was very aptly titled - we should all bow to The Queen that is Sissy Spacek! Seriously, this was the best episode I've seen in television in a really long time. I like your theory about Matthew using different vessels for his soul in order to achieve immortality, and how Ruth might be the only one able to kill him, considering she's a timewalker. But then again, as ambiguous as The Kid is, I'm still not 100% convinced he's evil. Sure, his creep factor was amplified in this episode and he probably set up a trap for Alan as a form of revenge (he did say he was building a monument for everyone who imprisoned him, after all, just before that creepy ass delivery of "why did you leave me in that trunk, sheriff?") by having Alan die in the hands of the woman he loved the most... but there are still many moments that make me reasonably doubt about The Kid's evilness, such as what you mentioned about his shy smile of someone who's trying to help. It does look like he's never smiled in his entire life, though, which I suppose makes sense.

All Hail the Queen! All Hail Castle Rock! It reminds us that we're currently the renaissance of television. And episode 7, the queen, by far, is one of the greatest episodes of any series. This episode elevates tv, as a work of art. The episode is more than just nonlinear, it is a jigsaw puzzle that you can be able to piece together upon watching the previous 6 episodes. It gives a lot of intertextuality, symbolism, foreshadowing, etc. The episode showcases the high level of poeticism through the juxtaposition, cause and effect of different narratives where through the help of the previous episodes, shows the big picture in the grand jigsaw puzzle that is castle rock. The Queen is one of the most moving, profound, heartbreaking, stunningly photographed, excruciatingly acted, painstakingly detailed work of art, I've ever come across. If a canvas has Monalisa or Guernica, TV has the Queen.

This episode was DEEP! You really did your homework too, I missed a few details like the safe combinations she put in would make her older than what she looked in her memories. Also, thinking about how Alan told the story of hearing a gunshot in Ruth's house then when he went to the door, Ruth came running to him and told Alan not to ever leave! So, does this implies that everything has been a continuous time loop in every episode until Ruth kills whoever she has to kill? Was Alan already dead the whole time and everything is looping over and over again from the perspective of Ruth's eyes? Also, interesting fact about Matthew is that while in the woods with the gun he mentioned buying his gun from Wal-Mart.... This is the second time Wal-Mart has been mentioned in this show. First it was Dennis saying how he would work at Wal-Mart instead of Shawshank Prison if there was one near by, now Matthew saying that he went and bought a gun from Wal-Mart.... I think Wal-Mart might be behind everything that's going on in Castle Rock in a ploy to run out small local businesses in Castle Rock, forcing them to finally join Wal-Mart and their billion dollar corporation! lol, great and thorough break down man!

The pile of rocks looked like a Dark Tower reference to me, as it looked like the shape of the Turtle. Also anyone notice the RED King chess piece. Red King = Crimson King (Dark Tower reference)

In response to your question about the rock formation pictured at 11:10 in the Jewish faith stones are used in their mourning ritual, which would make sense considering she is mourning the loss of her husband (even though the ceremony is not Jewish) According to Shiva.com, "Within the Jewish faith, it is customary to leave a small stone on the grave. The visitor positions the stone on the grave using his or her left hand. Placing a stone on the grave serves as a sign to others that someone has visited the grave. It also enables visitors to partake in the mitzvah tradition of commemorating the burial and the deceased. Stones are fitting symbols of the lasting presence of the deceased’s life and memory. Rabbi Nathan Glick. Founder and Teacher at Or Hahechal Center for Jewish Spirituality: 'The story I heard is that in ancient times it was not common to mark graves with any kind of structure. Jews did it, but not for the reason of having a location at which to commune with the departed. The purpose of marking graves is so that Kohanim should not become imbued with corpse impurity by inadvertently stepping or bending over a grave. Thus marking graves is a mitzva. The mitzva is to raise a pile of rocks over the grave. Every person who walks by helps maintain the marker by replacing or adding rocks, so the marker is stable across time.' "

oh man... when on the nature of daylight by max richter played at the end of the episode i was in tears... its one of the most beautiful and sad pieces of music I've ever heard.... seriously if they put that music to a fucking corn flakes commercial i would be in tears...it fits perfectly at the beginning of one of my favorite films arrival.

So if those were the gunshots that killed Alan, how was Henry able to talk to him as if it were the present and what about the his bridge ceremony? This show is so darn confusing to me....

The Bridge naming ceremony and Alan telling Henry his story in the hospital about why he returned to Ruth all happened before he was shot dead. Then we see that here (when Alan was shot dead + when Alan showed up on Ruth's doorstep) time had overlapped between these two incidents. This creates a loop or a skip -much like the way the music on the record player, where the needle keeps skipping over at the end of the record. It's like a visual aid that helps underline this idea.

I think the last scene was the most vital in the episode. I dunno what the explanation will be, because i can't see any good ones, but Alan knocking on the door telling her he came because some people heard shots being fired (remember, he never gave explanation to her son about the shots in the previous episode) has a meaning. At first i thought she is living her whole timeline at once ala what's her name from Arrival, but it's not that either because the timelines are intersecting with Alan being called to her house, because of the same shots that kill him years later. Whatever the big reveal is, will be interesting, but it might just end being something very dumb as well.

Sissy Spacek Did An Amazing Portrayal Of Someone With Dementia also Alan was shot when ran into the house yelling for Ruth after the kid said you shouldn’t have let me in that room at the end of EP 6 and found Ruth in the shed and Ruth shot Alan thinking it was her husband or maybe the kid at the end of EP 7

Ruth is a time traveler like her grandson said she was and the gunshots that kill Alan were somehow heard by neighbors in the past because of Ruth's powers. So Alan came to investigate his own future death.

I think the rocks are the same ones, or stacked similarly to the them, that Henry used as a landmark when following the camcorder tape when going through the woods. It could be a spiritual breadcrumb of some sort that Ruth didn't place.

So. No one had been here in a year? I’m the only one to just get Hulu, watch this show, and find these videos. Alrighty then. My comment is silly and inconsequential anyway. The record player nearer the end of the episode sounds exactly like The Imperial March to me. Anyone?

I think everybody in Castle Rock is dead. They're all ghost and everybody that's drawn there are ghost. Except the kid, and maybe Henry. That's why they can hear the skisma.... Whatever it's called. I think the voices are the voices of the people in their present trying to bring them back. Or the boy and Henry are in a coma.

One reason I've never liked guns, its always someone close to home or heart who gets killed, rarely is it a stranger. Unpopular opinion but this episode gave me a migraine. It was literally like being in a persons head who's losing it. It took her the entire episode to remember where the bullets were, only to get jumpy and shoot Alan.

The rock pile is interesting, I wonder if it's symbolic of a barrier between where a person is and where a person is meant to be? (either physically/emotionally or spiritually).

I am sure someone answered this or commented - but I believe the stones are also signifying the Hansel & Gretel story she was reading to the young boy. Talking about leaving stones to leave a trail in the forest....? Maybe some significance but w/ this show you obviously never know :)

I think Ruth indeed IS a time traveller. It's between eps 6/7 when she starts to put chess pieces around her house, however we see Henry take out a chess piece from the fridge already in ep 2, long before she comes up with the idea. Dun dun dun dunnnnnn!

He is the son of Ruth and the cop. They had an affair and the priest find out.The kid survived and the truth was hidden for years a secret kept by the cop(who knew he was his son) the priest that tried to kill the boy(stopped by the cop and pushed from the cliff) and the warden who held the boy in the basement of his house. The boy ages slow like his mother(immortality) doesn't get ill(maybe he could cure blindness) and could stay fed with a loaf of bread for months. He is a giver of life for those who deserve it but also a taker.

@Think Story please tell me I am not the only one who noticed Alan saying that he got a phone call from the sherrif's office and somebody told him they heard shots fired at Ruth's Place. He told this to Henry in EP5 and he it was repeated at the end of Episode 7 after she kills Alan, takes a bath and get ready to open the door in the past, like she knew it was going to be Alan? Don't you find that even a little bit strange that she knew it was going to be Alan at the door? since you already pointed out her date of birth? isn't that obvious that she's stuck in a loop? I know the theory I am proposing is a stretch but think about it, Alan says he heard shots fired at Ruth's place but the only time she found the bullets was right before she kills Alan so who fired those shots that Alan was called about?

I think that Ruth changed timelines for everyone at the end of this episode. She chose to escape into the past instead of confronting her reality where she killed Pangborn, but in doing so, she created an entirely new timeline (thinking of episode 9).
