Legacy of Darkness Hard Mode buffs enemy damage rather than enemy health (as C64 Hard Mode had done), making for a much more engaging experience. However, LoD's Hard Mode also reduced the availability of weapon upgrades and subweapons, making a more usual playthrough in which you expect to die (and therefore lose your upgrades/subweapons) much more frustrating. Even if you don't die, however, there are still several things to trip you up, such as a harder Nitro Run and more dangerous combat and platforming in the Duel Tower.
Reinhardt's fast-paced and aggressive combat makes the buffed bosses of Legacy of Darkness much easier to tolerate, not to mention that Hard Mode of Reinhardt's story doesn't have the oppressively difficult Dracula Ultimate fight that Cornell Mode does. Overall, for these reasons and more, I prefer Reinhardt to Cornell.
As in C64, this was done in two parts with a savestate at the halfway point.
Done on emulator, simple64.
