My favorite scene in Season 3 was Isaac's discussion with The Captain. It's such an amazing dialogue. The Captain is actively challenging Isaac's view on humanity, not necessarily by pointing out the flaws in his logic, but by showing him what he's been blind to because of his rage. Showing Isaac that because he's so fixated on the acts of malice committed by humanity, he keeps forgetting about the humans that have willingly helped him because they wanted to. If Isaac hates how ignorant and scared people are, instead of slaughtering humanity, he could potentially save it by becoming a teacher, showing everyone to be more willing and able to understand others. Isaac is routinely shown both of these aspects of humanity, which is exactly why he's struggling so much as a person. It's why every time he enters a new town, his guard is momentarily let down because a prior act of kindness shown to him makes him believe for just a singular moment that there's hope in humanity. Then it swiftly gets crushed by the masses. What a great fuckin' scene.

It wasn't pointless...he served as a means to develop Sypha and see that the world is fucked up. Why Trevor even drinks in the first damn place. Also, I think they wanted you to like The Judge so that you'll feel like shit too when you learn the truth. That said, this series has always pushed a mean spirited gorey nature that was never in the games. Yeah, you kill demons and shit, but it was never gorey or mean spirited. It is the one thing I both hate and love about the adaptation. Just once, I'd like Bloody Tears/Vampire Killer to play during an action scene but because of how the tone is so dark, it really doesn't seem like it would fit. Maybe the world will become more peaceful and normal by the time Simon Belmont is born. And the seried could earn that track, but for now, I feel like these guys would have done better with a Bloodborne anime. Something that is dark by nature, and has this whole other world...the creatures looked more like that, than they ever did Castlevania enemies. But that's just me. It's a guilty pleasure...on the one hand, this is exactly how I used to imagine an adaptation would look like, so I'm 50/50. As long as they tell a good story.

If in heaven your love can’t follow you would that not be hell? How can either exist if you know your past? The philosophical thought processes are thought provoking

Season's moral lesson: Dont stick your d**k in crazy . I bet the vampire blacksmith that made Hector's slave ring will help him remove it and make him vampire killing gear. Hector liked the book given to him by Lenore and even complimented its contents but Lenore said later on that the book belongs to the blacksmith which maybe a hint that the blacksmith is a wise vampire. Further dialog hints also that the blacksmith is oppressed in their kingdom and is just treated as a tool. And if this series will follow some of the ideas in the game... Hector IS a vampire hunter.

I've posted this a few times on other reviews, but oh well. Here we go: Don't obsess over the sex. People need to understand that Alucard craves for human interaction or at least someone who can accept and maybe even understand the pain he's going through. Up until then, I don't think he even had any experience with being deceived in such a way. And loved? He thinks he doesn't deserve to be even seen as a person who should be loved, let alone can be. Imagine having to guard your dead father's magical castle (killed by you no less), the Belmont hold and trying to survive freaking eternity! What?! Please, the show perfectly portrayed a young self-loathing man on the brink of suicide. Again, don't obsess over the sex. Obsess over the fact how much this betrayal has wounded him and probably closed his heart for anyone coming his way in the future.

In a way though, it's kinda right. Castlevania was never this mean spirited nor was it ever gorey, gross, or sex driven. Even Lords of Shadow never got as messed up visually as the anime does, and that's the one that got the mature rating. It is both the reason I love and hate this adaptation. It's most certainly how I imagined Castlevania would be adapted growing up, but at the same time, this isn't the Castlevania I grew up with. It's not the kinda atmosphere that lends itself to the music of the games, so we're likely never going to hear some of the most famous tracks or tunes. So, already a big chunk of what made the games is missing. But at the same time, I kinda really like where they're going with it.

I came into this season expecting Castlevania: Curse of Darkness. Instead we basically got a midway point between Castlevania 3 and Curse of Darkness, and it was great. The only thing about that theory is that Hector seems to have a completely different arc at the moment. They could try and get him into position by writing that he somehow escapes and gets rid of his powers I suppose but it seems like they might take a different direction.

Yeah it’s going in a different place, i think issac will end up saving hector who will probably voluntarily relinquish his powers to avoid creating a devil army for carmilla. Alucard's story in season 3 was absolutely terrible. Every interaction between him and the new characters feels incredibly awkward to the point of cringing. It's funny because the two scenes where it's JUST Alucard at the very beginning and end of the season are great. Trevor and Sylpha's story was pretty good as long as you ignore their incredibly weird inaction towards the dracula cult, but at least I could pass that off to due to the judge's influence.
@wheatbreadcrumbs

I see your point but I think that the arc was incredibly needed for Alucard. He's learned that he was too trusting with humans and has started to sink into the emotions and actions of Dracula. Sure some of it was awkward but I feel a lot of it makes sense as he was obviously being forceful with trying to fill a hole which is why he tried to keep the new characters around and that in turn it what made them betray him. We had a lot more talking and learning this season but I feel like it was entirely justified in building Alucard as a reflective of his Father which can be built upon next season.

I can't exactly vouch if Alucard swings that way or not... but I still feel that the entire scene is unnecessary from the start of the scene to the reveal. The betrayal felt out of nowhere with paranoia being a shallow reason to face-heel and it felt like Alucard needed to do something this season. On the other hand, I do think it did leave some character development to Alucard, albeit a very grim outcome. It's just that the way they did it felt off and went nowhere.

I think it goes to show how dangerous giving a power to a broken/twisted person can be (look at the judge, the king controlling zombies, etc.). There were people he met along the way that attempted to teach him things from their perspective - his arc is about learning these outlooks and forming a more sane and logical view from it (something we are shown that he currently lacks and is yet to fully understand - maybe allowing room for further growth next season).

What annoyed me about Isaac was how impressionable he was this whole season. He talked to the shopkeeper who gave him a gift and convinced him that there might be some worth in humanity but immediately abandoned that idea the second a group of humans gave him some lip about marching an army of demons through their city. He talked to the captain who treated him with kindness and gave him the "not all humans" talk which seemed to give Isaac food for thought but then immediately abandoned the idea when a bunch of humans refused to let him walk his hell squad through their town again. I know change is a slow process and I shouldn't expect Isaac to change after one or two interactions with nice humans but the way they wrote it just made him seem like a bit of an idiot is all.

The Devil Forgers are far more interesting characters in the Castlevania series than they were in the the PS2 game Curse of Darkness. Issac was your typical scorn hothead begging to be used by a greater power, and Hector was just Alucard lite, who was looking to avenge his dead girlfriend. They took the basic personalities and build from those concepts into something with far more substance. Issac wanting revenge against hector for Betraying Dracula is still part of the story in both instances, but we get to see under the hood to why they get there rather than just be told not shown. Issac's journey is far more compelling in this version and helps reinforce the theme than humanity is often the evilest of monsters. Trevor was always my favorite Belmont , as he was the first person to slay Dracula in Castlevania lore. I wish they'd let him deal to the death blow for that reason in the shown. (He still might if there's a rematch.) After Trevor, everyone else just knew their family could do it, and sought out to keep the family business going. Trevor did the impossible, and brought an end to the reign of darkness. That's why was so important that he fullfilled the quest Leon started centuries earlier. Sypha and Trevor's relationship playing out is fun to watch. It's also amusing to see something Judgment touched...as Sypha runs poor Trevor.(He comments when he beats her in the story mode, that he could best her in battle but she ruled their household.) Sypha is not a tragic figure in this universe as her order was hunted down and slain too by the church, as she was in the games as that was the common ground they had as Trevor and her were both feared and hated by the people they saved. I don't think this show really needed another angsty character, so them making her this upbeat character who just is interested in learning and exploring every works far better as a constrast to Trevor who is more angry and rougher around the edges than his gaming counter part. (Trevor more stoic and regal in game to counter Sypha's angsty personality.) Between Trevor and Alucard this show didn't need be a pity party and benefitted from her being a source of light and optimism. I think Grant would been a great addition if they added him as a much jovial prankster to the team. In season two I thought Godbrand might been Grant being controlled by Dracula as he had a similar appearance to Grant's boss form before he's freed from Dracula's control. Unfortunately that was to be, as Godbrand wa sjust some random lt of Dracula , and Grant still has not been used. Warren Ellis seems not like Grant, which I get if I had cut someone for the 4 episodes to save time, I'd cut him too. But they clearly have more time to develop things at this point, I think giving fans the entire CV 3 team is long over due. I mean we got freaking Saint Germaine from Curse of Darkness to have an appearance. I fail to see why Grant, a pirate is wackier than a freaking time traveler dandy. They can always take liberties with the character as they ahev with anything else. Lastly Alucard is still quite young in the show, in Symphony in the Night we see him wanting to stay away from humans, this season kind of shows how he'd get there. The twins briefly gave him a outlet for something positive as he feels like he deserves to be punished and left alone. After their betrayal he goes back to viewing may be he shouldn't be around people as he's likely only have a situation end badly. I hope he still rejoins the rest of the cast at some point. All in all I have far more good to say than negative. I look forward to seeing where it goes next......

You might not fully realize the situation he was in. I actually liked this part of it. People who do not have strong convictions, ambitions or sense of purpose will be inherently more easily swayed because the mind looks for something to cling onto. And while being beaten and humiliated might make you more insecure it also breaks down your self-esteem and resolve which makes you more prone to manipulation in its own way. Although you might think Hector should know that them not killing him and letting him live is a tactical move, the mind does not care and it will affect him nonetheless. It is really interesting to analyze these things and see really how malleable our minds can be. Such things happen in real life too, a famous example might be the girl kidnapped by the urban guerillas or something and then joining them willingly after being locked in a closet and manipulated for a month or two.
