Hey Stevem! it's nothing like Metroid, it was obviously inspired by Doki Doki Panic Literature Club.

I really enjoyed this. My favourite point was about the Owlbears at the start. I remember how blown away I was by these big monsters, not only dying in one hit, but how cool it looked as they burst into flame. It really set a different tone. I look forward to the next video in this Igavania series of yours :D

The owlbears is always one of my first thoughts when I think back to this game, I'm also really fond of the little details on some enemies like how when you kill a Bone Ark the Skeletons carrying it will run away. Thank you very much, I'm glad to hear you're anticipating my next video :)

Recently played SotN for the first time, being familiar with Aria it still took me 6 hours for the first ending and 12 hours for the true ending (yet I'm aware the game has lots to offer still, with long-time fans finding something new to this day). I can totally see why it's considered a classic, hopefully my appreciation for it only grows more... Also, is this channel defunct? I understand if you don't feel the need to analyze something that others are doing a good job tackling... In that case, please point me towards your favorites!

I'm playing through Symphony for the first time right now and I have to say, it's always really awkward to not enjoy something that is universally praised. Progression is obtuse, even considering other Metroidvanias. It took me far too long to figure out that I had to visit that clock room at a lucky moment in order to literally progress in the game. Stuff like that is fine for secret content, but wandering around the castle checking and rechecking every path was frustrating. On top of that, the game is painfully easy. I bought Diamond Mail from the shop and now even bosses do hardly any damage. The stopwatch special weapon allows me to cheese just about every difficult encounter. Bosses die in just a few hits of Mormegil, the sword that I'm currently using, and pose absolutely no challenge. I'm sure there are good qualities to this game, but coming from someone who started Castlevania with the DS titles like Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia, Symphony just feels strictly worse to play.

I'll never understand the people who bash the Dracula X Chronicles English dub for SotN. Yeah, Alucard doesn't sound as badass but Richter doesn't sound like a Resident Evil 1 character (wink-wink, nudge-nudge) Maria doesn't get a stroke every time she says "Richter", the Succubus doesn't sound like a porn actress doing fake moaning, the librarian doesn't sound like someone's tickling his balls under his chair and Dracula (while I LOVE "What is a man?") actually sounds like a jaded cynical ancient vampire who's seen his fair share of atrocities. But the best part is - you can just switch to the Japanese voice acting and enjoy yourself.

I just discovered your channel and I like the content you're creating, but I have one suggestion - you should stop talking over shown text and/or important moments including voices in the video itself; let the viewer to read/listen to it, because it's really hard now to focus on either of those things.

I believe the criticisms at the end are kind of nit picks or just completely objective.(I know you have to find SOMETHING to criticise but it goes to show how good this game was for the time and it holds up today) The regular castle in SOTN is easy, and the upside down castle can be a pain in the ass. Cheap sure, but I didn't mind the sudden spike in difficulty I sort of welcomed it. Also, I love the original voice actors. I know its not great, but I think it fits. When you listen to the redub, there is zero emotion and Alucard and Richters voice actors sound like little boys. "A huge drawback is how long it takes to reload after death" I couldn't even put this in a review of this game. Its such a nit pick. You can beat SOTN in like 5-6 hours then some extra time to just make sure you walk into every room and find secret rooms when you inevitably traverse each castle is not that hard. Otherwise, great video!

The games difficulty is pretty adjustable based on the choices of the player, it's up to you if you want to change Alucards gear around or grind for extra levels and such which I feel is what effects the difficulty of enemies the most. The main issue with the reverse castle is that it's just not as well designed upside down, it's a cool moment in the game for sure it just doesn't feel as well put together as the rest of the game. I'd still rather play through that than the castles in COTM or HOD though. I personally love the original English voice acting for SOTN, however I think we can all admit that it's very corny. That's part of the charm though and I remember that original dub far more than the newer one, lines like "Die Monster" and "What is a Man" are iconic to the Castlevania franchise. For the purposes of this video however I felt it was important to get across that's it's not how Igarashi originally envisioned it. The narrative meant a lot to him, hence the Japanese dub has such names as Norio Wakamoto who has been working as a Voice Actor since the 70's. The newer dub I treat as an attempt to better fit the original intent and tone of the Japanese script. Dying in SOTN is just a pain, it's fair to say this is a universally accepted problem. Even Igarashi himself has made note of that lengthy game over screen and how long it takes to get back into the game. I love SOTN, I can't actually think how many times I've played through it now and I still find dying incredibly tedious. Nothing is perfect, not even Symphony Of The Night. However it's pretty damn close :)
