This place is super special for me as I visited back in 2014. There is a little street called Via dei Gallese and you can see it in your walking video. It means ‘The Welshman’s Street’ don’t know why it has been named that. There must be a story about a Welshman doing something good in Castro in the past [WW2 perhaps?} and I would love to find out as a Welsh European myself! Hope to return soon as soon the pandemic is over and UK politics a little quieter... 🙏❤️

Llio Wyn thank You for your message and. Glad you enjoyed it! It's super interesting to see that foreigners visited Castro. It's quite remote and far off the beaten track! About the Via... interesting indeed, it could very well been actually. I searched a bit in Google but couldn't find more info. For sure the info should be found in the town hall. I liked Castro, very peculiar place. Have a nice week!

@@StillWanderer Grazie for your quick reply and yes, I am thinking of delving deeper to find out about that little via...I know that the Welsh Guards were helping out WW2 Battle of Montecassino, so I will find out I hope! Please ask your Italian connections in the area... Also, did you know about Portmeirion in Wales? Google Portmeirion.wales to find out about this special Italian village in Wales... maybe worth a trip for you next year... I work there by the way! 🥰

Llio Wyn.. didn't know about that! Interesting about Poreiron..first for me. ! Indeed the British 8th army fought a lot in that area - troops rom all commonwealth were quite present. It would be interesting to know more about the name !

@@StillWanderer it sooo would! To an Italian village like Castro to name a street after someone sounds pretty big deal, so there must be a cool story... have a look into Portmeirion and it’s amazing links with Italy , Clough Williams Ellis the Architect, the story of his son killed in Cassino and buried in Minturno, and also the link with Portofino... Super stuff!

Hi! Is there any chance you have a picture of one of those information signs? My boyfriend is from this town and I’m trying to make a ring with the towns coat of arms on it but can’t find any reliable sources on the internet with the correct one. It looks like it’s in top left corner of those signs but with it being a video it’s hard to get a clear picture of it.

Hi Jordan, unfortunately I don't have, but try to look at the town-hall website, I see there's it around even if not in great resolution. But it's there! look here = comune.castrodeivolsci.fr.it/ Or here = comune.castrodeivolsci.fr.it/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/cropped-stemma-cdv.png

@StillWanderer
3 жыл бұрын
Yup Ken. Usually it's not like that though. It's a mix of - weird time when I shot the video, the pandemic and its effects (older people scared to go out mostly) and, well, not so many people for sure around. Lots of very old people live in those medieval towns as well. But it can be crowded at times; when there are local festivals, local cerimonies or during summetime it's different.
