The Catalina Society's PBY5A Catalina Flying boat display over Oban Bay on August 23rd 2013. The aircraft was in Oban as part of Project Hawker 2013 which is commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Daily Mail Circuit of Britain Race in which Harry Hawker flew his Sopwith waterplane around the coast of Britain. Hawker was on the only entrant to actually fly in the race and the project aims to celebrate the centenary of his flight by closely following the route taken by Hawker in 1913. Oban has a close association with flying boats, with aircraft from the RAF, Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) being based in the area during the Second World War.
