The Oceanside Police Department teamed with Len's Auto Body to host a free Catalytic Converter Etching event.
The event is a part of a multifaceted strategy that Oceanside Police has implemented to address the increase in catalytic converter thefts in California.
The public had their catalytic converters etched with a unique identifying number at no cost.
The etching provides law enforcement with the victim’s information if a converter is stolen.
To participate in the event, the public needed to provide a driver’s license and vehicle registration.
Oceanside police say the public can protect their vehicles by parking in well-lit areas or in garages. They also advise installing surveillance cameras on your property.
