Cheers David! My wife is the sailor. I am on the verge of conversation to consider the pros and cons of multi vs mono as she is mono experienced and not into turtling cats. We are making headway💪🏻. Your videos are valued. That kind you!

Honestly I envy you. If it was just me I probably would go mono. Having said that, the Neel 52 or Rapido 50 &60 tris are an interesting compromise. Good luck and stay in touch as you progress through your decision. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!!!

Another phenomenal review! We love watching your walkthroughs and leaving our comments Dave, so thankyou for giving us a platform to converse with "like minded sailors" 1) Agree 100% on the front bow spare room, even if they get rid of the lower bunk, leave the existing top fold down and have a work bench...they could incorporate that very easily 2) when we first saw the layout of this boat we thought there would be a door to/from the owners shower to the front bow (which would also be a good spot for a shop - similar to the vision 444) 3) we love the full size residential fridge, but i don't think you mentioned the additional drawer freezers in the main saloon (around the corner from the big upright fridge). there is lots of cold storage on this boat (maybe something to add to the chart?) 4) we think the price point is pretty decent given the pedigree of Catana, the size, available sail plan (see videos from Catamaran Guru) and the daggerboards (which provides minimal draft) 5) We love the double lounge space in this boat... I'm not sure how my wife and I would use the front lounge... i could see it being similar to a "formal living room" but for you, it may be a great place for your chess set! We would prefer to see the rear have a fold out table that can be height adjustable and convertible into a bunk (for long passages and to have a coffee table style lounge area right at the rear of the boat) 6) Finally, so thankful Catana moved to a sport top helm. The only thing I would have liked to see would be an entry from the inside of the cockpit / extended saloon.... I don't like having to go outboard (close to the lifelines) to get up to the helm. I really think FP does this best!

Slightly controversial boat, but I like it (agree on that interior aesthetic 👎). Direction looks to be something like Excess but even better performance, not an Outremer/HH competitor. Those bidet toilets remind me of the fancy Japanese Toto, the dream land throne, would definitely love those. Few nitpicks: 1) Helm is much better than the old Catanas, but I really like FP design with the secure enclosure and steps down+up. Not much point of the protected helm when in stormy autopilot weather you still have to walk around deck to get to your winches, and to access the boom it would be great to just step right up from the helm. 2) Forward life raft locker 👎, put it on the tramps like Outremer. Also bring the anchor further back for weight. 3) Central mast compression post in the saloon is no problem, done very nicely, but would be great to have some small tree shelves on it. 4) Fully agree with the third cabin, definitely should be a utility room. 5) Extended roof for more solar, plus cover some of that spaghetti, better line UV protection and solar. 6) Doesn't appear to have any rain catchment, the roof channels that double as grab rails are such a great idea which should be standard on every cat.

Hey Burddog! Love the comment and totally agree. I don’t understand what happened to Catana. Their boats from the early 2000s are SPECTACULAR!! The interior quality and design on the 65, 582 etc is amazing. They really need to get back to their roots and put a whole lot more distance between the Bali and Catana brands. Thanks for watching!!

I totally agree with your comment about yacht companies shoehorning berths in every possible corner of their boats. It annoys me to see that much wasted space that's already at a premium on narrow hull boats. Outside of custom boat yards, manufacturers cater largely to the charter industry, which demands the allocation of every available sq footage on a yacht to as many berths as possible. Even so called 'owner's versions' have at least one too many for my taste, but what can a prospective owner do, besides extensive modifications after purchase? Order a full custom build from an exclusive yard that will cost much higher? There aren't many layout options out there. An owner's version with no more than two berths is hard to find, let alone one with only a master cabin. Resale value is likely a secondary major influencing factor to layout design of these yachts, but that's just speculation on my part.

Hi James. Covid and it’s impact on far more “owners” purchases (50% of the first 50 Lagoon 55 hulls were ordered as owners versions) has resulted in a big shift to a two stateroom “owner’s” layout on a bunch of the new designs. Outremer 55 & 52 offer complete flex in the forward guest area to be used as any number of configurations. HH offers the same solution on the 50 and new 52. Leopard was one of the first to do it with their utility offering and the new NEEL 52 has dedicated a hull to a dressing room, larger head and laundry room. Even Excess is doing something similar. The tide is turning.

@@navalgazingatcampdavid I was not fully aware of the impact of Covid to the yachting industry other than the general effect on sales and prolonged time of fulfilling orders. I've been watching hundreds of walkthrough and review videos this year, and kept on seeing the same layouts yacht after yacht regardless of make. I thought to myself that very few of these would be true liveaboards except for the largest unattainable models over 60ft. There's usually sufficient room in a 50ft catamaran for a single owner or a couple to live aboard if there wasn't so much space consumed by extra berths. That's very good to know that things are finally changing for the better. If a buyer is going to be spending well north of a million dollars, he/she deserves to have the most for every dollar!

Why always compare with Neel. Is that the one that u like and eventually buy, if you will ever buy?

Hi Yolo, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to write. I generally prepare the data for 12 yachts at a time with 3 sets of 4 yachts. I have been aboard 3 NEEL models so they would be featured in a total of 12 videos. NEEL is an anomaly as they are competing directly with the big three cruiser manufacturers, yet, due to their trimaran configuration, can often be also compared to some performance cruisers because their speed and upwind performance is generally better than the equivalent cat. So, I may have inadvertently included them in more than just the 12 videos I initially intended to. Re my personal bias…I must admit that there is something about the trimaran config that really appeals to me. It looks sexy as heck and it gives more feedback, and is therefore more fun, to sail than a cat, without the excessive healing of a monohull that would just send Sylvia over the edge. Neel has furthered the concept in such a creative way, overcoming the usual cramped narrow Center hull with a full beam upper deck that stretches right across the both amas and the Center hull. It’s an innovative and brave effort by Eric, to say the least. The resulting space, and now the dressing room/master head down, configuration of the new 52, not to mention the price and performance, certainly make NEEL a contender in my (or rather Sylvia’s lol) final desision. Thanks again for your comment. I have learned so much, over the last 8 months, from viewers like you, who force me to dive deeper.
