Let me start with…… Rock Star!!!! Mind blown!!! Amazing colors! I have been watching you and Smalljaw since I started tying and have been trying to imitate y’all’s techniques. I’ve been making crappie jigs bass jigs, and now bass and crappie spinner baits. I think I am ready for the next step. What do you suggest I start with to make the plastics? What the beginner level stuff that will build a good base for learning the technique? …… I gotta stop watching you…… Lololol. I’m sure Barlows appreciates it though! 😂😂😂

Hey Mike! Glad you’re enjoying the content and interested in branching out!! To really get going you’ll need a good $500 or so, good ventilation, and some room to work. 1 gallon of medium plastisol will do a lot. Most people start out with cheaper equipment to see if they like it - Do-It is a great option for that, you can find it on Barlow’s yup! Beyond that… but a few colors and a bait mold you know you want to fish, maybe a flake choice or two, and you’re off! Equipment wise… PPE gloves, respirator if your ventilation is so-so, microwave, Pyrex, stiring stuff, injector, and and and LOL. You quickly find out A). You love it, and B). You need more!

Is it better to start with smaller bait sizes or does it matter? Anything I should avoid at first?
@SDGCustomLurecraft
Жыл бұрын
@@mikenolan6562 mold is totally up to what you like to fish. Small/big may not be as important as higher cavity count (single cavities get old fast!). The only thing I would definitely avoid is Do-It plastisol. Burns easily, heavy odor… there’s just better stuff out there. I love Baitplastics. If you get a gallon and throw in some pigment and flake to get it over $40, it’s even free shipping! Do-It essential series molds are a great place to start. The finish of the bait won’t be shiny (more matte finish) but they totally fish and are much more economical than CNC aluminum. Totally personal opinion… but I would avoid Stone Molds and even silicone open pour. Stone molds “stick” terribly ruining the bait, and silicone open pour… while cheap… I just find them super frustrating as it’s hard to clean up over-pours (break out the scissors… bleh!). Hope this helps!!

Once again, my interest level has been expanded and my pea sized Cajun brain is, can I say, "SWIRLED". Just saw Chris's attempt at swirl injecting with his molds with sprues in different positions but I do not think his turned out as well as yours. I'm thinking Epic Molds might be major reason nonetheless those baits were "slayers" and those tails are GREAT. Wondering if having those tails in might have added to the swirl effect. I know, that's reaching but the results you had is another reason I need to go ahead and get that other N2 injector and mixing block. Now I'm wondering what a triple laminate swirl with tail and rabbit zonkercheff on a 2color arkey head would look like? A very sage man once said... Dream it Build it

The possibilities are indeed endless! FWIW, after this video I swirled other molds and had similar results to Chris… some were better than others but none as good as this 3” Slayer mold - every shoot with it turned out juicy. If I had to guess I would say the fact it has 20 cavities helps “disrupt” the flow more than say 3-6 cavities where the plastic can be more uniform between baits. With the CS mold, every 1/8” or so another opening grabs some plastic and keeps it all off balance. That’s totally a guess, but it made sense to me so I’m going with it! LOL. Can’t go wrong with a N2 dual setup! Shoot, even the extra will come in handle when shooting a bunch of single colors! Appreciate the feedback Rory!
