Just a quick tip, placing your strike indicator in the correct spot is crucial in order to present your fly in the most natural way. What I do to determine how high up I should put my indicator is simply by putting it about 1.5x to 2x the water depth above my fly. And also never be afraid to throw super small flies, you'd be surprised how big of a trout you can catch a fly you can hardly see. Good luck!

June Lake Loop. In the Sierras. A few lakes, creeks. Loaded with trout. Gets cold at night. Around 7000 foot elevation. Setting up my tent, 3 deer cruised by about 50 feet from me. Years ago I when I first started fly fishing I was having the same problems and several people tried to help me out. In the end, I realized what I was doing wrong and corrected it. . . If you want to catch fish, the best thing to do is to pick up your fly rod and throw it as far as you can. Then, bring back the ultralight spinning rod and proceed to catching fish as usual.

Great video as always. One thing you might want to try when you are fishing in current like that first spot, look up "mending your line." You kind of flip the loose line back up into the current as it drifts downstream (I'm not describing it very well). What happens is if too much loose line gets caught in the current, it drags your fly faster than the current and it doesn't look natural to the trout. You want your fly to drift at exactly the same rate as the current. Look up mending your line and I'm sure you'll find a better description than mine.

In haigler creek AZ, There’s some really nice fishing, and some really crystal clear creeks. There are also spots Where the holes are really deep and there’s a ton of big fish, yet there’s only crawfish and rainbow trout, but you can find the native species of fish too. But the native species is hard to find. Nice camping spots there too. It’s in the mountains as well.

When you fly fish, make sure you are aware of everything around you. it's easy to get snagged in a tree. Also, on your back cast, feel the weight of the line. Then snap your wrist forward. For flies, a Wolly bugger/worm is a great seasonal bait. Be careful of the weight of lure too. A 5wt will have trouble casting a heavy fly.

Just a suggestion from a fly fisherman whose been fly fishing from Alaska to southern California, I would reccomend dry flies. This time of year especially on the east coast gnats (buzzballs in particular) and midges do great on the river. Also if you really want to do nymphing what you should try is first tie an egg pattern about 1/2 - 1 foot of the way up your tippit. Then underneath that as your main fly, tie on a copper john. The egg pattern attracts the trout's gaze and the copper john triggers the bite. Finally, my last suggestion, when your casting try and keep your casts as fluid as the river around you and watch the tip of your rod come back to 1 o'clock each time you come back to cast out. Also I love your videos and props to your girlfriend for doing the work of noblemen!!!!

Hello I’m from Scotland and I do a lot of fly fishing and I watch your videos a lot just thought I would offer some advice when ever I am fishing with a bite inductor and trout nymphs I have always fond it is better once you have cast to point your rod towards the ware and keep the line tight by taking in slack or figure of 8 retrieve slow it helps to notice bites and feel the bite on the line and when you are casting when you bring the line back it helps if you count to 5 then brig the rod forward it gives the line and fly time to straighten out and land gently in the water hope any of this helps you out when you are fly fishing next time. Keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻

Keep trying with fly fishing! My dad was a fly fishing only dude who had a vintage bamboo fly rod and used cut wine corks for strike indicators. Went mainly after trout. He’s foreign to spinning/casting gear. Well, Upstate New York (mainly the west by Canada) has some great trout fishing. Take a kayak and troll for em! Hope you come back to NY after this all blows over! Best regards to your girlfriend, she’s a trooper on the front lines. Hope you both stay healthy and safe. Hello from Long Island, NY.

Try a purple chubby chernobyl, my favorite dry fly for prospecting for trout. It also works great as an indicator, you can tie tippet to the hook and then tie a nymph off that so you can fish a dry fly and a nymph for a dropper (called a dry dropper setup). Also rainbow trout like oxygenated water so fish the riffles that flow into pools. Hope this helps, but would love to see you fly fish more and have success! Best thing to do is learn about bugs in rivers and how trout live, you will have the most success. 😬

Great video! But I have one tip for you, when you get a hook set on a fish fly fishing, you have to let the fish run! If you don't let the fish run, you will not tire her out, and will as a result loose the hook set and therefore the fish. Therefore after you get a hook set, make sure to always keep tension on the line and reel in the slack on the reel. Then you let her run and in between her runs, reel in a bit of line while always keeping tension on the line, Great video though, keep up the good work!
