Are you using a Cordell Superspot or a RatLtrap or what? Just a simple rattle bait, right?

I’m going to the jetties of St. Andrews sometime this summer and I want to know if I would catch anything if I used a gotcha plug on the jetties. Could you help by responding?

Can you by any chance give me a basic setup for fishing from something like the dock at St. Andrews? I am a freshwater fisherman and almost always use artificial lures but I am not sure what to use from the dock to catch things like flounder. For some reason salt water fishing seems alien to me even though I have spent countless hours out on freshwater lakes.

My style for saltwater fishing has almost always been artificial.. Time to time I'll use squid or shrimp but usually I'll drop down a thing called fish bites.. They come in a bag and they look like strips of bubble gum.. They work great and can be used multiple times before you have to change them. But off the piers, my favorite lure is the gotcha lure. You can find it at any local store. All you have to do is jig it and you'll land tons of mackerel and blue's which all put up a great fight. What're you trying to catch?

+Chandler Hilton Thanks for getting back to me. I just want to catch a fish to be honest with you, just for the pleasure of having caught something in saltwater. I would really like to catch a flounder for some reason but anything with gills will work! I'm going back in late May and will buy a 3 day license, rod/reel combo and whatever bait I need. I'm just looking for an easy artificial rig that will simplify things and will work for the types of fish that hang around the dock in the lagoon instead of the jetties or the pier. I know you are also a fisherman so I'm not telling you anything you don't already know but as an example, if someone came to me and asked for a bare bones rig to catch something where I fish I would recommend something like a 2" or a 4" inch white or crawdad colored grub on a 1/8th oz jighead. They are cheap and fail proof - just cast out and reel it in. You might catch a bluegill, crappie, bass or even a walleye if you're lucky but something will hit it and it wont take long. Thanks again!

+wilsocn if your looking to catch anything, then I would go to the store, get you a double hook rig and a 2 oz. pyramid weight and a bag or 2 of fish bites, preferably pink or orange because I think they work the best, only problem with that is you'll catch mostly pinfish and live bait such as squid will give you the same results most of the time.. Artificial lures is your best bet on the piers such as the gotcha lures will catch you lots of mackerel and blue's and they are really fun to catch.. Also, it may be a little early for the time that you go, but redfish are also a great option right here on these jetty's at St. Andrews state park. All you need to do is cast this lure that I'm throwing in this video into the current and let it drift across the surface of the water and the redfish will come out and get it.

I just wanted to say thanks for the tips on fishing St. Andrews. I finally made it and caught 9 using fish bites and 3" Gulp shrimp. I caught a pompano and a speckled trout as well as ladyfish and some "junk fish" as I heard people call them. Those ladyfish/skipjacks were the most fun, extremely fast and acrobatic! I got lazy on the rig though and just used a 1/4 oz jighead. I caught a good speckled that I put back but the heron that was following me rushed into the water and grabbed it and ran away with it lol. That fish was as long as his head and neck but im sure he managed somehow. There was also a gator in the lagoon - in the salt. I had never seen that before but a local told me it wasn't uncommon to see them in there from time to time. It was close to where I was wading but he was a little one anyway. Thanks again!
