My second most favorite earth mover. This CAT is truly a work of art. In the hands of a good operator, this vehicle can do just about anything. You don't see too many 996's with dozer blades, but if you do, watch it work it's magic. Very powerful tools for pushing dirt...... ........and boulders.🔧

I gotta believe the engineers considered what kind of "abuse" this piece of equipment would encounter and take it into account. I guarantee you they said, "what would happen if the operator tried to lift the bucket as hard as the machine let him". They either design the entire machine to be able to handle it or they dial back how much load the operator can put on the machine.

when you blast marble, you occasionally get pieces that are bigger than you can not fit in the loader bucket, if that was the biggest loader in the quarry then you have no option except to push it to the side away from the rest of the loading face until guys with compressed air hammer chisels can come down to deal with the oversize chunk, this often means being a little bit abusive to the machine and when you work in a quarry, it is naturally hard work so you can't go all snowflakey on the machine because you fear you might scratch it or maybe break a line, you do what you have to do to get the job done.

Shot Firers will put a charge on the rock and fracture it. If it's gold bearing ore it will be worth the trouble. I operated 966 and 980 Cat fels for years and they are practically unbreakable. The 992 could handle heaps more abuse than that it really is a none issue..

Our 2nd 992 is just getting assembled in the workshop. That's a 150+ ton machine getting lifted... This video reminded me of our dog who once received a cattle shoulder blade... that thing was half the size of our dog... I asked my manager, when can I try the 992 or the WA900s... I would have to put a few more hours into our L350s/988s first. :((

This shows the reason not to try and lift the boulder but roll it. Imagine the pressure on the hydraulics trying to lift the boulder. This is one model below the biggest mechanical wheel loader, its brother the 994 and look how the rear end came off the ground and smashed down. A not so good shock to the drive train.
