The Vatican held another round of talks with leaders of the Synodal Way in Germany. The discussions came one day after an official report said 400,000 German Catholics left the Church last year. The number is down from 522,000 a couple years ago, but it still is causing alarm. Currently, there are around 20 million Catholics in the Western European nation. Editor in Chief of CNA Deutsch, AC Wimmer, joins to tell us more about the recent discussions between the Vatican and the German Synodal Way. He explains who from the Vatican took part in the talks late last week and how seriously the Holy See is taking this subject. On another note, the talks took place one day after an official report said that 400,000 Catholics officially left the Church in Germany last year. Wimmer helps us unpack these numbers and why people are leaving. He fills us in on whether official numbers are available for other faiths or denominations and whether we know if other religions are showing a similar decline.
