As a Mexican I almost spat my drink when he said that the Mexican Revolution was not only free mason, but that its purpose was to kill clergy. The Mexican Revolution was to overthrow a violent dictator named Porfirio Diaz. And it was the people rebelling against a tyrant, it had nothing to do with religion. In fact, this is the first time I am ever hearing such ridiculous claim. If I am charitable, he might be speaking about the Cristero War. A war which started because the government wanted to heavily control the catholic church. It was a of an smaller scale and lasted for fewer time than the revolution, but it was indeed a war against the church. Many extreme injustices were committed against the clergy and Catholics in that war. Now, I do not know if that was the free mason who did it, but that happened.... And I would be inclined to believe he probably misspoke but while he talked about the Mexican revolution, he showed several paintings of the Mexican Revolution. So either he confused them or he is extremely ignorant and did not even do proper research before talking about it. But given how ignorant he is on many topics he speak of, I am more inclined towards the latter.

It’s clear to me that Brian believes in Satan as a powerful supernatural entity that is a threat not only to Christianity, but to all that is good. When he sees Ghost satirizing Catholicism and aligning himself with “Satan” and the Freemasons, Brian can’t help but assume that Tobias is an instrument of evil. Like most religious apologists, Brian seems completely unable to imagine that other people see the world differently from him. He thinks his imaginary fight between good and evil is just as real and important to Tobias as it is to him.

There is a freemason lodge in my town in Southern Spain. It is essentially a rich people club, very similar to the rotarians for instance, and for instance a friend of mine tried to join and he was rejected as he was "not the right kind of person" (ie he just had a small shop). Also, at least some of them are openly Catholic, and nothing of this is a secret in town - and Spain used to have very strong laws against Freemasons. However, talking to people from other countries has taught me that the situation is very very different from one place to another; one Scottish friend told me that in his area it was kind of a workmen's club for Protestant low and middle class workers to support each other in a majority Catholic area.

I'm a Freemason, and honestly Brian's protrayal of the order is downright sily. Like you say, it's not nearly as secretive as he says it is. Most of the time you can google your local lodge's page and apply for membership, the requirements are also pretty relaxed: for most lodges it's just 1) being a man, 2) Not be a minor, 3) Be independent (as in you're not economically dependent on somoene else) and 4) believe in a higher power. (Many lodges are 'mixed' so they accept both men and women, and some lodges, especially french lodges, don't require a belief in a higher power, and then there's the freemasonic equivalent for women, which is the exact same thing, just ran 100% by women and doesn't accept men) The real big requirement is basically: do your desires align to freemasonry? Most people don't know what actually happens in the lodges, if you're hoping for secretive orgies or discussions on politics, you won't be accepted. If you're interested in what is basically a book club on philosophy, you're in. Then you pay a fee (Can be pretty low, mine was $15 dollars a month, + costs for the degree ceremonies, which was about $50 dollars and you took them like 3 times in 2 years.) and you're in- you can technically fail the initation ceremony, but fuck, it's really hard to do. You're also 100% allowed to shout from the rooftops that you're a freemason, it is looked down upon, but it is allowed. What is not allowed is to say who else is a mason, because if their families, friends or employers have a moral panic vs the order, that can cause them trouble. As for how we influence politics? eh... we inspire people to critizise authorities we consider illegitimate (i.e. anything that isn't democracy, hence why every time a dictator comes to power they will ban freemasonry) which usually escalates into those people opposing the government, but that's about as much as the order does, and even then, it's unofficial, its just the result of our teachings, not something we're required or even recomended to do. That's about it, really. Nothing specific is even allowed to be discussd in the lodges, it is all really vage. The focus of the order is to study our own branch of philosophy to live better lives. The rest is consistent with the order's teachings, but not an actual part of it. The only anti-catholic sentiment freemasons have is "It is wrong to force people to believe in one religion or another", which directly opposes the evangelizing nature of catholics and the tendency of their institution to take power and force people to adopt their religion under threat of violence.
@tsukikage

Ай бұрын
@@tsukikage It's an old institution, and there's plenty of it that hasn't aged well. Unfortunately it is also an institution that considers tradition as something extremely important, so change is very, very slow. Odly enough, while freemasons have historically been progressive, the world seems to be leaving the order behind, so you might soon be able to think of them as downright conservative. Although there's also a good chance the new generations toss some traditins out of the window too. Atheist-accepting lodges and mixed lodges are an insane break from tradition for freemasons, and those exist.

In Sweden, catholics are in fact marginalized in Sweden and I wouldn't claim there to be any "majority religion". There are a lot more pious muslims in Sweden right now than pious christians. Let me put it like this. I'm an average Swedish guys, and I know a crap tonne more of muslims then I do christians. :P Up until 1977 it was ILLEGAL for catholics to build monasteries in Sweden. Ever since the reformation carried out by Gustav Vasa, Catholics have been heavily discriminated against, even in legal form, with the penalty of death. This has stayed with us in Sweden, and I think we got our first catholic bishop in centuries in the 90s. Don't get me wrong here. I'm not a big fan of organized religion either. But if Tobias has been "oppressed" by catholics in Sweden, then MAN must he have been unlucky to be born into such a family. A meager 1.2% of Sweden is catholic, and while the stats say that the majority is Christian (60%), this basically just mean that you've been born here and haven't bothered to officially exit the church. I did that. I'm not paying taxes to the church, f that shit. XD In Sweden you can ask "Anyone in here got aids? give us a show of hands!" and people will be more willing to raise their hands than if you would ask the same thing about catholics. There's nothing wrong with having aids, and this is precisely my point. We've come a bit further than many when it comes to removing stigma from certain things. I'm very proud about this. Even though we have huge GAPING holes in certain areas, and even though we are currently moving in a very frigthening political direction (we are basically electing Trump jr). We are a heavily secular nation with a heavy recent influx of muslims. We are very different from the US in this way. Perhaps the Catholic man you are discussing would like to move here so that his persecution complex could become real? ^^

The #1 reason I was drawn into Ghost was that I was de-converting from Christianity when I first actually listened to them, I saw them in August of last year. I happened to be at their show because we went to see Amon Amarth (another great band), who opened for them. I was still terrified of death, Hell, and the Devil, and really didn't know where to turn. I was kinda vibing for a bit until l heard the whole fucking crowd of 7,000+ yelling "HAIL SATAN" and I initially felt like I was having a mini heart attack LOL and by the time the final chorus started I was chanting it too 🤣 while content such as yours and Drew's has helped on my way out, I gotta always show love to Tobias and everyone who has been involved with Ghost, it all allowed me to no longer fear the "demonic" and superstitions behind religion.

Wow, freemasonry mentioned! I’m not a mason but I work for one of the largest branches if freemasonry in the US and I can confirm you mostly did a great job correcting misinformation about freemasonry. That’s impressive given just how much confusion and misinformation there is out there! I have criticisms of freemasonry myself, but most of the conspiratorial arguments like what we have here are pretty weak. Very little about freemasonry is still supposed to be secret, and a lot of masons get annoyed if you call freemasonry a secret society. Like you said, for the most part the main secrets are stuff like the handshakes as well as the exact scripts of the ceremonies for advancing through the degrees. However, the significance of each degree is openly advertised, and my understanding as a non-mason is that the secrecy around these aspects is mainly for the purpose of strengthening the bonds between masons rather than protecting any especially sensitive information. Also this should be obvious to everyone, but to be extremely clear, masons do not maim or murder people who leak the secrets! The one big example of it happening in US history was back in 1826 (known as the Morgan Affair for anyone interested to learn more), but obviously a horrible vigilante murder in the days of dueling and such does not represent all masons across time. It’s half right to say that masons are not supposed to comment on politics; this is true in most of the English-speaking world, but in continental Europe and some other regions masonic organizations take official stances on partisan issues regularly. But it doesn’t have a ton of effect on masons as far as I can tell, as masons have been on both sides of most major conflicts in Western countries in the last few hundred years. I’ll also note that lots of Catholics don’t take the Church’s official ban on freemasonry very seriously, and there are plenty of Catholic freemasons who don’t see any contradiction in that. (Similarly, lots of Catholics-69% in the US according to a 2019 poll-don’t take the doctrine of literal transubstantiation seriously either!) It’s also very misleading to hear that the judge in the lawsuit against Tobias Forge was in the same lodge as him. That would imply that they met regularly and would probably know each other reasonably well and could definitely be a conflict of interest. However, the reality that they were both in the same Swedish masonic order is way less significant. That’s like saying there is a conflict of interest if both defendant and judge were in the Boy Scouts of America; there is zero implication that there was any meaningful relationship between the two. And you are very right to point out that freemasonry is far less popular than it once was, and getting less popular every year. Not that freemasons were running the world 100 years ago either, just that fraternal organizations in general really had a moment in the 19th century and freemasonry was the most famous and largest one, and had the largest number of famous people joining. Finally, it is very important to note that, like in most groups, there is a wide range of positions among members of masonic organizations regarding how seriously any given member takes everything. I have met plenty of very no-nonsense masons who see masonry as some kind of path to an enlightened life, and I have met plenty of masons who just consider masonry to be a unique way to spend their Tuesday night every week. Personally I like the esotericism and weird aesthetics, but I tend to agree more with the latter view. While I have a bunch of criticisms of freemasonry as well, ultimately I find it to mostly be a relatively harmless way that eccentric middle-aged men meet each other and socialize. Apologies for the novel lol

At around the 39 minute mark he makes the claim that angels are pure spirit. Now I'm not an ex-catholic, I was raised Pentecostal and then left but it seems absurd to me to claim angels are purely non-physical. They appear to people constantly in scripture and great detail goes into describing how they look. This has even led to the 'biblically accurate angel' meme becoming a thing. I can't believe Catholics think angels aren't physical. How tf are they appearing to shepherds to herald the news of Jesus's birth if they aren't physically there? Bare minimum they have to be visible in the light spectrum humans can see and that implies some level of physicality.
