@@lb3240 I do not talk about believing. Anybody can believe what he likes. I was responding to the sentence, which I find... well, very poor. Sounds deep, but in fact isn't. That is all. And of course, if bible was completely truth, than your sentence "god doesn't force anyone" would be very wrong... Most of worlds gods from all the religions are said to force humans to believe in them. I do not believe in one, so I do not have to accept any forcing in that way. But I guess, that would be for longer and different discussion. As I have said, I find nothing wrong in personal beliefs, but I just wanted to show, how empty that sentece was. That's it. Father,I am Evangelical but a great admirer of The Catholic Church. I have found Priests to be fearless,they will bravely answer questions my own Ministers simply jump over or give me a look that says I should just digress. I know you are busy, but this is a simple question,and if you or another Priest could answer it I would appreciate it. Having many Catholic friends from work and my time spent in higher education, I enjoy collecting and discussing Catholic Alter Art and Artifacts ( mostly in photo form, but I have some actual pieces). My question is if I refer to these as Beautiful Catholic Icons , would the word Icon be offensive to a Catholic Friend? Gods Love ❤ Chattanooga TN.

@BreakingInTheHabit

Penance is supposed to be a sign of one's conversion, and so I listen carefully for what I believe to be the stumbling block in the penitents way and try to come up with the first step for overcoming it. For instance, if someone is having anger or resentment towards another, I will ask them to pray for that person or to an act of charity towards them.

Breaking In The Habit what’s the harshest penance you’ve given (as much as you can say anyway to keep the seal of confession)? Did you initially find it difficult to absolve the pertinent’s sins? Also, is there a prayer you like to say privately before inviting penitents to confess? I hope I’m not intruding into your privacy for asking these questions.

Cyberman King I’ve never given a “harsh” penance because penance is not punishment. Penance is a way to facilitate and represent one’s ongoing conversion, and so I always give things that will help them take the next step in discipleship.

I was raised as a protestant. I was taught the trinity and that Jesus is God. But after much reading of the scriptures I have found so many things that contradict both of those ideas. The Holy Ghost and Holy Spirit were a conundrum especially in light of the unforgivable/unpardonable sin. Within the past few years I've dug deep into scriptures and translations to get to the bottom of it. What I found was that it was a misunderstanding or something similar. The Holy Spirit was said to be the 3rd person in the trinity. But the words used in Genesis 1 during the Creation story was actually ruach ha kodesh translated into Mighty Wind. Upon more digging it became apparent that there were 2 versions. The other version was simply the spirit of holiness. As opposed to having a spirit of anger or sadness etc. Then I found that Jesus said woe to those who call good evil and evil good. Then it made sense. It tore a hole in the Trinity view. Then I questioned the trinity entirely. This lead me to find a difference between Jesus and the Father as well. Now I can't possibly justify seeing Jesus as God. I have many verses showing Jesus not knowing things because only God knows. Then I found Jesus being mentioned separate and unique from the Father. This reasoning is not accepted by most Christians but most Christians believe that Heaven is in some other dimension and when you die you appear there. So I don't give it much credit. I would appreciate some feedback and friendly debate on the subject please.

Hi Father Casey . . I don't know if your here anymore to answer questions .. So I will try and hope you will receive my Q. I am 62 now . . I was a damaged in a sense during my youth that took years to heal and it was from being robbed of being able to think for my self. I don't know if you can understand this but during my depression late teens I found refuge in Music. I contemplated a lot about God and life Mysteries and by the time I was 36 years old after years passed of feeling loneliness of unable to have a soul mate in marriage .. I had a amazing experience of Jesus coming into my heart taking that empty space away. it brought me back to the Church to even wanting to join . . after finding difficulties in finding a religious order i could feel i can fit in and some rejected me . . i was also always in debt owing money that also put obstacles in my way that my labor type of work could not free me from. Partly my fault to because I would spend money in wanting a good sound system that i could not afford in quality to enjoy music better. My down fall is i need to have a drink to relax me during my music sessions . . it put me on a mood level that allows me to relax with the music. . the problem is i tend to eventually drink more then i should. I do this once a week now putting time aside so as to not indulge to much. My question is . . I know i must moderate the drinking side which i am in the process of doing, but am I being unfaithful to Jesus if i put an afternoon aside to have time to relax with music, my session time that may last 3 to 4 hours. I often ask Jesus for permission to allow me but I am not aware how harden my heart is in hearing any answers. I want to love God with all my heart . . I have nothing going for me, no family of my own and while i have to work to survive i feel i need some think to look forward to that I can enjoy in a moment . . I do not live with the world ideas and it keeps me lonely from having common friends . .. many things disturbs me so i can never be clear and it bothers me if I am not being a good friend in return to him. I am a artist by nature and its the creativity art in Music artist i enjoy . . . I listen to mostly Blues type of sound tracks types of music. Am i robbing myself of salvation by spending some time for myself in this matter ? it over whelms me some times with whats going around us today as I need Gods protection against the evils & snares of Satan working through the leaders of the world. God Bless

@Sterling Crowne Paul makes it very clear that remaining single allows one’s attention to be undivided in serving the Lord (1 Cor 7:32-35). He recommends celibacy to all (1 Cor 7:7) but especially to ministers, who as soldiers of Christ he urges to abstain from “civilian affairs” (2 Tm 2:3-4).
@krdiaz8026
4 жыл бұрын
Sterling Crowne ALL Catholic priests ARE married. They are not bachelors. Their spouse is their parish. Their children is their parishioners. If they do not have a parish, then their spouse is the Catholic Church, and their children are all Catholics in general, although most priests are connected to a community. That's the reason we call priests "Father" rather than "Mister." Being a married man means being tied to a specific family and being required to sacrifice for that family, while a bachelor can go his own way. A married man must stay with his spouse and children, but a bachelor can choose to leave his family. (Obviously this does not include situations where the father needs to leave his family for work, like soldiers, or when a bachelor's parents are sick and need to be taken care of.) Therefore, as a married man, a parish priest's PRIMARY responsibility is his parish. He cannot just go to a different parish to preach even if he feels like it. Do not equate being married only to being legally married.

Fray Casey ... I can understand when you say “celibacy is the law of the Church” perhaps you do not mean it in the strict sense of theology since celibacy is a discipline of the Church. And as you said it can be changed. Very personally as a theologian I think that it should be optional as it happens with the Eastern Rites (Byzantine, Coptic, etc.). For a change of this magnitude to happen the problem is not the clergy but the people. For it is the people who must be educated before they even take this option into consideration. But say, the pastoral, economic considerations, etc. etc. etc. The question is: How will a people with a "unilateral" mentality of more than a thousand years be educated? The priests that there are who today are married thanks to the conversions of pastors of the churches that belong to the first generation of Protestants (Lutherans, Anglicans, Presbyterians, etc.) could be key instruments for that education that the people of God would require for this. Ultimately it must be the Holy Spirit who will prevail. May God help us!

Daniel Caliz. My personal thoughts about doctrinal changes within the R.C church depends a lot on how deeply immersed one has become from very young in the structure of the church. Today you are Catholic because you are baptised at a young age & your parents - traditionally are Catholics. One remembers the CATECHISM which we had to learn by heart in the early days. I mention this aspect because it does say "the Pope is infallible as head of the church and representative of God on Earth" & i as a child, understood it to mean, the Pope can change certain aspects of church doctrine which are not scriptural. Is that so Fr. Casey?

I have a question about slavery in the Bible, and why was it permitted. Specifically, these two: When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. Exodus 21:7-11 (NLT) When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB) I know these are in the OT, but slavery is still approved of in the NT as well. Jesus says, “Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ.” (Ephesians 6:5 NLT) Please explain if you can and thank you 🙏

I am a 50-year convert to RC from neighborhood Protestant. One question that still puzzles me. I was taught early on that to get to heaven, one must first believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross in atonement for our sins. As a RC all I've heard preached is the need to be a Catholic and follow church teachings. In my mind, this is putting the church before Christ. Am I missing something?
@garrybraithwaite5807

Yes the truth is missing. Catholics will tell you various things when it comes to salvation. You were taught right - you must believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross in atonement for our sins. Romans 6:23 tells us ......the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. I have been told by Catholics that "Jesus died on the cross so we can earn our salvation" or "salvation is faith plus works". My advice for you is to get out of the Roman Catholic Church find a Bible teaching church to go to.

Both are correct. Before baptism, one has to believe in Jesus, then only the person can be baptised. After baptism, one has to continue following church teachings. The two teachings were given at two points of time according to the circumstances.

@Nathan .J. 1 Peter 3 :15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect Be equip with Catholic apologetics, history of the Catholic Church and history of the bible. But sometimes there is really no point comparing religion A vs religion B. There is not much common basis. And there are some people so brainwashed eg the SDA and Mormons that you probably are wasting your time. They seek to convert you. Not real dialogue.

Where do the mediums get the idea that they can speak to the dead? At mass the priest always says to those who have fallen asleep. Meaning the dad cannot see you and they cannot speak to you.

Hello, I have a question that I hope you can answer. Can a person leave Catholicism? As in not be counted officially by the church anymore? I know there’s the letter of defection but in my understanding this doesn’t make your baptism invalid. So can someone ever really leave the church, not be counted officially at by the Catholic Church anymore? Thanks.

I have a question which I read in this morning in Jeremiah Jeremiah 17:10 I, "I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person ... all his ways, since You know his heart--for You alone know the hearts of all men-- Yet in the Prophecy of Simeon in Luke we read that the secret thoughts of many will be revealed by his Mother too? So how is that? If God alone knows the heart, how can Mary? What does this passage actually mean? Thanks.

Dear Father Casey, I'd like to ask a question. It may out of topic, but I do really want to know. Is there any way for an ex-Brother or ex- Sister to re-join after leaving the monastery and live common life? Is there any consequences to them for their last decision to leave? Thank you anyway. God bless you.

Father, you have the gift of public speaking, for which we are so grateful. But, in contrast to Protestant preachers, most Catholic priests bore us to death by reading their sermons. Why not pass out the printed sermon instead, so we can take it home and read it. Or better yet, why not increase the emphasis on the first half of the mass, i.e. “The Liturgy of the Word”, and prepare priests to preach effectively, as a vital part of their seminary training?

Your views on women's roles in Christianity and the homage you paid to Mary Magdalene by saying that "at one point, she was the entire Church" were just beautiful. Women do deserve far more respect and opportunities to serve or lead in Christianity, and I say this as a former Christian myself. The hypocrisy of saying everyone's equal in the eyes of God while perpetuating a patriarchal religion is one of the reasons why I left. That said, I do have respect for those who truly follow the Christ, as you seem to do, and if more Christians shared your beliefs on women, the faith would be much better. Blessings from a Wiccan. + )O(

In Catholic church style of Bible interpretation is different. And Bible is not the only book referred to. As Bible was compiled 1600 years back. We have to know how to interpret the Bible as per todays scenario. There are classes in Roman Catholic church called RCIA, which explain the faith. Those who are interested can attend and learn more.

I have a question 🙋🏻♀️ I know someone who was born Catholic but never really pray the rosary 📿 because it always felt like keeping repeating things wasn’t normal to them,, they where more in to just the listening of Bible teachings and church songs, any way after so many things then left the church they went back but the Catholic Church didn’t accept them back,, why? And if someone don’t pray rosary it’s not Catholic?? Aren’t all the Christians the same?
@Dimple1472

Saying Rosary is not compulsory in Catholic church. A person can remain Catholic, even without reciting the Rosary. If someone who has left the Catholic church, wants to come back, person has to go and talk to a Roman Catholic priest and he will advise what needs to be done.

Scripture says that God is slow to anger, and swift to forgive. Father, I am an Episcopalian. I love Holy Eucharist, and I can say that married people make great priests! God provides for their families miraculously, and the RCC shouldn't fear accepting as priests those who are not called to celibacy, but rather marriage & family. I pray the RCC will never be afraid of ordaining and accepting married men (I, hope and pray, women, too!) as priests in the RCC. Scripture says that Deborah was a prophet, and arguably the greatest of the Judges of Israel (see Judges 4&5). She is only Judge who led Israel in a battle with minimal loss of life, and then presided over 40 years of peace. No other Judge did this! Deborah was no accident or aberration!. She likely was not married ("Wife of Lappidoth" can also be translated as "Woman of Fire"). She may have been a celibate for the Lord! Jesus admonished Martha that Mary, who studied at His feet, had chosen what is better than merely domestic concerns. He also revealed Himself first to women when He rose again, and those women were the first preachers of the Gospel of Christ's Resurrection to the disciples (who were not apostles yet, but were skeptics). This is important to the revelation of God's grace, because the ruling Roman pagans (or that of the Jews) did not accept the testimony of women in the law court as verifiable, yet God chose that they be the first eye witnesses, even before Peter. If we women are the weaker vessels, then we are the best recipients of God's grace. For, as Paul prophesied, "In your weakness is my strength made perfect". I know your nuns are crying out to God for the right to the priesthood, for they have so much to share and feel God's call. They should not be denied.

I wish more people knew that belief in private Marian messages is optional for the rest of us. I found these people to be the greatest barrier to faith as I thought these had to be believed too and I just could not in good faith ( pardon the pun )accept it, and the more they pushed it the further I ran in the other direction thinking I was running from official church thinking all along. Turns out I wasn't. I like your videos Fr Casey

@@motnosniv Good for you Jimmy, glad you had a nice feeling and there is nothing wrong in telling people about your dream, maybe it was real or maybe it was just a dream, I don't know. My point is that it is not required that I believe in your dream. The problem for people struggling with faith is that they encounter religious people that make such claims and are left thinking ( well of course he or she would dream that or hear this and that and so on ) and put is down to some personal psychology of that person, then we are faced with a problem of thinking well if I don't believe that stuff I must not be a good and proper Christian so the doubts begin or increase about other areas. Obviously some ( I'd say most )people that experience such things are merely having dreams ( I have no idea in your case so don't take that personally and there is no need to tell me how real it felt etc ) so it really isn't necessary to believe them to be a 100% good catholic. Nothing wrong in telling people about it of course but be aware of this phenomenon, you could be pushing away some people that are unaware that it is not required of them to believe you. 🤔

I would like to ask why all churches are pointing out that the other church be it protestant or other who confess Jesus Christ are wrong and this church is the only right one? It even says in the Bible and by Jesus Christ's words , if they are not against us they are with us!? It seems like every church is doing this finger pointing to me and I have been getting wrapped up in it a bit myself. All I would like to see is churches, priests, pastors.etc Actually perhaps asking the general public if they would like to be saved by being baptized for the remission of sins in the name of the Father Son and holy spirit. It seems like everyone is too wrapped up in politics and gossip and it's like leven entering all churches and people's minds. So now the whole lump is nearly leavened. If one says that he is from Appolonia and another Cepheus why do we boast against eachother when being in one mind is stronger than being as one.
