KDB _ once saved always saved is not sound. We need to get back on track, but it’s difficult. Compare someone with an addiction to something who has broken free from it, with great struggle, and then years later goes back to it and then later on again wishes to be free from it. It becomes more difficult and you may be weaker... However, it’s like the rich man entering heaven, though it’s ‘impossible’ for man to achieve this, with God nothing is. That is the wild card here. Jesus weighs the heart and searches the mind of the person contending with faith. If you are humble, sincere and truly seeking with as much of your heart as possible you will likely (may) find healing of your wretchedness. God is not a pushover, hence why we need to be real, and have a healthy fear of God, to help keep us in check. May Yeshua bless you.

it is just believe, but it's believe in the LORD and savior Jesus, you are probably thinking of the word Lord too lightly. The rich young ruler wanted Jesus as savior but was not willing to make Him LORD. To make Jesus your LORD, you must surrender all, and follow Him on His terms, you don't set your own. Jesus tells those people: luke 6:46 "And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?"

Tom, you might to enroll in an RCIA program, and witness someone from outside the Catholic faith , come to learn the real truth about Catholicism .. the sacraments, and receiving Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.. John 6:52-58 52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” 53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. I SEE NO WHERE IN SCRIPTURE WHERE IT SAYS CONFESS TO ANOTHER MAN, NOWHERE ABOUT ROSARY....NO WHERE WHERE GOD GIVES MEN THE POWER TO MAKE THEIR OWN SIANTS OF GODS. BUT THAT IS MY REASONS...EVERYBODY HAS THEIR OWN.

This scripture is saying that if there are no works evident,( "you will know them by their fruit") then you are not really saved. Romans 3:28 "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works". You have to consider all scripture pertaining to this matter. Not just one.

to get salvation you need to believe in Jesus and that he is Gods son, that he died and rose again, and then you must admit you are a sinner and repent. true repentance is confessing your sins and turning from them. faith and deeds/works:making an effort to avoid what the bible tells us not to do, and to exhibit the fruits of the spirit. - what the bible is saying as that you cannot get salvation through good works alone because we will never be good enough without Jesus - that's why God sent him to be the perfect sacrifice. It doesn't require any rituals, or any of the things the catholics religiously do - confession to a priest, or prayers to saints - I don't think its a bad thing to tell someone your sins and hold yourself accountable, but believing that you must tell a certain person other than God to be forgiven is false and diminishes him. that's my main problem with catholicism, much is unnecessary "According to official Catholic doctrine, in order for a person to be saved, it's quite a tedious task. It involves steps such as actual grace, faith, good works, baptism, participation in the sacraments, penance, indulgences, and keeping the commandments." most of these things are good things! baptism/public declarance of faith is important as a christian, good works are still important, an effort to keep the commandments and turn from sin - communion and marriage and all of those too!!! but those will not get you saved. Jesus death IS our penance, we do not need the mass as an ongoing sacrifice. it is finished. Jesus is the only way truth and life. Believe in him and that he died for you and he rose again and lives today!!! It wasn't for nothing. It gives just enough truth and then diminishes the whole point. The point again is that we cannot be saved of ourselves and don't need anything other than God's grace, leading to repentance which we can't truly do without him and him alone, not anything of ourselves, not any rituals. I do believe most Catholics have good intentions and are just being deceived in this way - I say this all out of love, I hope you made it to the end of this :)

Taylor, what you have written is not true. Read the Council of Trent declarations. Take note of the 125 Anathemas. You will see that the Roman Catholic group denies Salvation by Faith alone (see Ephesians 2:8-9), as well as many other Biblical doctrines. Roman Catholicism used many of the same words that Christians use, but it is not of the Christian faith. It is a false "church." Purgatory? Mary, "Queen of Heaven?" Mary, "Co-Mediatrix?" Where within the Bible would one find THESE teachings of the Roman Catholic group, sir?
@Briaalys

The long-held claim by Roman Catholicism that it was the only unchangeable church is not supported by church history - not even Roman Catholic history. How sad to realize that this false claim influenced so many to join or to stay in this false church, which actually is the product of centuries of changes. Most of these changes resulted from the Roman Catholic church's yielding to heathen customs and practices that were subsequently incorporated into Roman Catholic teachings and worship. The following is a partial list of heathen, unscriptural practices that became a part of Roman Catholic dogma over a period of seventeen centuries. Some of the dates given are approximate. In many cases, these heresies were even debated for years before being given the status of required beliefs: Prayers for the dead - 300 AD Making the sign of the cross - 300 AD Veneration of angels & dead saints - 375 A.D. Use of images in worship - 375 A D. The Mass as a daily celebration - 394 AD Beginning of the exaltation of Mary; the term, "Mother of God" applied at Council of Ephesus - 431 AD. Extreme Unction (Last Rites) - 526 AD Doctrine of Purgatory (Gregory I) - 593 AD Prayers to Mary & dead saints - 600 AD Worship of cross, images & relics - 786 AD Canonization of dead saints - 995 AD Celibacy of priesthood - 1079 AD The Rosary - 1090 AD Indulgences - 1190 AD Transubstantiation (Innocent III) - 1215 AD Auricular Confession of sins to a priest - 1215 AD Adoration of the wafer (Host) - 1220 AD Cup forbidden to the people at communion - 1414 AD Purgatory proclaimed as a dogma - 1439 AD The doctrine of the Seven Sacraments confirmed - 1439 AD Tradition declared of equal authority with Bible by Council of Trent - 1545 AD Denied every doctrine of the Reformation, from Sola Scriptura to "salvation by grace through faith alone"; Pronounced 125 anathemas (eternal damnation) upon anyone believing what evangelicals believe and preach today. Here is a sampling: If any one shall deny that the body and blood together with the soul and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ, and therefore entire Christ, are truly, really, and substantially contained in the sacrament of the most holy Eucharist; and shall say that He is only in it as a sign, or in a figure, or virtually - let him be accursed (Canon 1). If any one shall say that the substance of the bread and wine remains in the sacrament of the most holy Eucharist, together with the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, and shall deny that wonderful and singular conversion of the whole substance of the bread into the body, and of the whole substance of the wine into the blood, the outward forms of the bread and wine still remaining, which conversion the Catholic Church most aptly calls transubstantiation - let him be accursed (Canon 2). If any man shall say that Christ, the only begotten Son of God, is not to be adored in the holy sacrament of the Eucharist, even with the open worship of latria, and therefore not to be venerated with any peculiar festal celebrity, nor to be solemnly carried about in processions according to the praiseworthy, and universal rites and customs of the holy Church, and that he is not to be publicly set before the people to be adored, and that his adorers are idolaters - let him be accursed (Canon 6). If anyone shall say that the ungodly man is justified by faith only so as to understand that nothing else is required that may cooperate to obtain the grace of justification, and that it is in no wise necessary for him to be prepared and disposed by the motion of his own will ... let him be accursed (Canon 9). If anyone shall say that justifying faith is nothing else than confidence in the divine mercy pardoning sins for Christ's sake, or that it is that confidence alone by which we are justified ... let him be accursed (Canon 12). Equal value and authority of tradition and Scripture (in actuality, tradition is held above Scripture); Scriptures for the priesthood only (prohibited to anyone in the laity without written permission from one's superior -- to violate this was [and still is in most "Catholic countries" today] considered a mortal sin); Seven sacraments; Communion by eating the bread only (not drinking the wine); Purgatory; Indulgences; The Mass as a propitiatory offering. Apocryphal books added to Bible - 1546 AD Immaculate Conception of Mary - 1854 AD Vatican Council I - 1870 AD Defined the infallibility of the pope in matters of faith and morals Confirmed Unum Sanctum (no salvation outside of the Catholic Church). Assumption of the Virgin Mary (bodily ascension into heaven shortly after her death) - 1950 AD Vatican Council II - 1965 AD Vatican II made no new doctrines, nor did it change or repudiate any old ones; Trent and Vatican I stand as is (Vatican II verified and validated all the anathemas of Trent). Vatican II reaffirmed such Roman heresies as papal supremacy; the Roman priesthood; the mass as an unbloody sacrifice of Christ; a polluted sacramental gospel; Catholic tradition on equal par with Scripture; Mary as the Queen of Heaven and co-Redemptrix with Christ; auricular confession; Mariolatry; pilgrimages to "holy shrines"; purgatory; prayers to and for the dead; etc. Mary proclaimed Mother of the RC church. Reaffirmed the infallibility of the pope (and even when he does not speak ex-cathedra, all RC's must still give complete submission of mind and will to what he says). Divided RC doctrine into that which is essential core of theology, and must be received by faith, and that which is still an undefined body of theology which RC's may question and debate without repudiating their essential core. Established 20 complex rules concerning when and how any indulgence may be obtained, and condemned "with anathema those who say that indulgences are useless or that the Church does not have the power to grant them ... [for] the task of winning salvation."

Catholic theology teaches that justification and sanctification, faith and works, are not separated, as Luther thought. Rather justification is not only the remission of sins, but also the sanctification and renewal of the interior man. I appreciate your evangelization, but you must learn more about Catholicism if you’d like to speak about it. We do not only believe works alone merit salvation. No one can “buy” heaven with enough good works, or good enough motives. At the same time, faith by itself, without works, is dead. Catholics believe you need both.

@@lydiapetra1211 Hi Lydia, I would like to start by saying thank you for replying to my comment. My intention was to correct what Ray had said about Catholicism, thinking that Catholics believe salvation comes from works alone. This is incorrect as Catholics believe you need faith and works together. You are correct in saying that salvation is a gift from God, and by faith you will receive salvation, but good works are necessary too. This means works of love. Good works are not mere external deeds, but the works of love. And love is not mere feelings. It is not that we purchase heaven with our good works; Christ has already purchased heaven for us with his work of love on the Cross. We do not do good works to get to heaven, but we do good works because heaven has gotten to us. If we do not do good works, that shows that heaven has not gotten to us. True forgiveness has not gotten to us. God forgives us so we can forgive others, to pass on the love (which is the works). I hope you can understand, I apologize for any confusion. I encourage you to check out the Catechism of the Catholic Church or Catholic Christianity by Peter Kreeft if you have any questions regarding the Catholic faith. I can assure you the Catholic Church has truth to it as every other faith does. After all, Catholicism was founded by someone who died and rose again, correct? Founded by Jesus Christ. There isn't another religion in the world that has a founder who died and rose again. What does that say about Catholicism? It is founded by Truth himself! And therefore cannot be pagan nor established by Satan. I will continue to live my faith as you do yours, God Bless You!

I would not recommend listening to an Evangelical Christian explain what Catholicism is. anyone interested in knowing what the true teachings of the Catholic Church should go to the source and read/listen to people like Scott Hahn, Trent Horn, Catholic Answers, and Pints with Aquinas. These are the best places to find out what Catholicism is all about. With that being said, as a Catholic, i can appreciate Ray and his work and his ability to connect with people. something Catholics could learn from for sure. God Bless.

Ray mentions the song "Amazing Grace." That song was wrote by a Sea Captain who used to be an Atheist. He was at sea when a bad storm came. He went to his knees and cried out to a God he didn't believe in. He said if you are real and will save me, I will serve you for the rest of my life. The sea became calm. The Sea Captain Atheist now turned Christian, went down to his room on ship and, begin to write one of the most beautiful and still well known Christian songs "AMAZING GRACE" Amen and God bless all

I like your videos for evangelization in Christ, but I am a Catholic and I think you have a misunderstanding about how Catholics interpret salvation. It was condemned by various councils. God's grace saves, but we are justified by our works on part. By the way, is not faith a work? You are not just saved, you need to align your mind, body, and sould toward Jesus. This involves work on the onset and throughout ones life. I will add that a study done not too long ago posed to evangelical Protestants if good works were needed for heaven and the majority said yes.
The bible says we are saved by Grace through faith in Jesus amd not by works. It's when you receive the Holy Spirit through repenting and believing In the gospel of Jesus, then you can be able to do good works because the Holy Spirit will lead you to do so (fruits of the Holy Spirit). Remember Jesus said expect a man be born again he will not see the kingdom of God

The Catholic Church prays to the Saints which is idol worship. They worship Mary and pray to her as well. Catholic Church teaches infant baptism which is not scriptural as well as that the communion becomes the literal body of Christ after you partake of it - also not scriptural. They also preach works rather than faith. I have to confess my sins to a priest rather than God himself. They venerate the Pope. There are many teachings of the Catholic Church that are not scriptural. They also mindlessly repeat the Lord’s Prayer which was to show us how to pray not that we repeat it over and over. There are many more problems than the ones I listed here.

Only Ray separates Christianity and Catholicism. Maybe he forgets that the Christian Catholic Church began with the teachings of Jesus Christ, around 1st Century AD in the province of Judea of the Roman Empire. The Catholic Church is the continuation of the early Christian community established by Jesus - no modern/improvised street preacher can make that claim. The Catholic Church has one unified teaching as opposed to the now 43,000+ evangelical (Protestant) groups currently established, with new non-denominational added each day. Their views on everything contradict one other but they all claim to have understood everything 2000 years later. Do your own research with patience and see. Let’s pray with faith, love, and hope for the unity of all Christians.

Dear Ray, your work is really beautiful and inspiring to all Christians because you show us a great example of what good evangelisation is. I'm just sad to see you characterise the Catholic Church this way. It's by no means work based as any priest will tell you; the work is all done by God. In fact the Church even condemned this view a heresy in the 4th century (pelagianism). What we do teach is that a faith without works is a dead faith. Works are necessary; its just that the protestants and catholics differ on word choice while meaning exactly the same thing. Please don't disparage the Catholic Church because she's doing her best to remain true to the teachings of the Lord Jesus as conveyed by the Apostles and Holy Scripture. As long as Jesus Christ as God is preached we should support each other. God bless you and your ministry!

I would say the biggest difference between Catholicism and Christianity, in my opinion, is that Catholics believe what a group of religious men tell them, in addition to reading their Bibles, and believe that sanctification comes through sacraments administered by the church and some works, and once again by doing what a group of religious men tell them to do. Christianity is about having a relationship with Jesus Christ, and knowing that there are no good works or sacraments that will make you righteous enough to go to Heaven. It is about following with the Bible (Sola Scriptura), says, not the opinions of theologians or religious historians, who are flawed men by their nature, but from the main source that both Non-Catholics and Catholics take their beliefs from- the Bible. A lot of Catholic dogmas and ideas- the Immaculate Conception, Purgatory, Limbo, the authority and supremacy of the Pope as the "vicar of Christ" can be refuted by the Bible.
@matthias66

@@Ryan_Zell A challenge- Accepted! First of all, I never said Protestantism was the "right" way to God, and you did point out a lot of flaws that I would agree with in Protestantism, like "Once Saved, Always Saved", Imputed Righteousness, etc. There are things I disagree with in Protestantism, but there are a lot more things I disagree with Roman Catholicism. And let's cover Sola Scriptura, while we're at it. Yes, it isn't in the Bible, but it is an idea- an idea that if you stick to Scripture Alone, you aren't going to deviate and come up with ideas that are unbiblical (even though both Protestants AND Catholics have done this) if you stick to the Bible. It is a principle, not a means of grace or sanctification. But you want some examples? Purgatory, where Christ dying on the cross wasn't enough so that when you die, and you don't have an mortal sins but venial sins, you have to be purified or purged of your excess sins for many years before you go up to Heaven to be with God (Hebrew 10:8-10, Hebrews 10:14, Romans 6:10, 2nd Corinthians 5:21 contradict this). Or "venial" vs. "mortal" sins. Or the speculative notion of "Limbo" where unbaptized babies go, when Jesus clearly said in Matthew 19:14 "Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." There are many other things I could bring up. And let's talk about the Protestant Reformation. And it came about because the Catholic Church at the time of Martin Luther, under Pope Leo X in 1517, was doing something morally wrong. The Pope was sending out friars and monks to sell indulgences, so if people would buy indulgences, the Catholic Church would speed up their dead relative's time in Purgatory by forgiving/pardoning their venial sins. They were acting like they had God's authority to forgive sins, and for a price, they were making false promises as to what they could do- forgive or pardon certain sins, which only God can do. And what was the Pope going to do with this money? Rebuild a basilica! St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. This was a scam fundraiser! "Why does the pope, whose wealth today is greater than the wealth of the richest Crassus, build the basilica of St. Peter with the money of poor believers rather than with his own money?"- Martin Luther. And Martin Luther called them out on it big time, with his 95 theses that he nailed on that door in Wittenberg, Germany. And because he stood up to him, they put him on trial at the Diet of Worms to try him for heresy, and the Pope issued the Papal Bull Exsurge Domine, condemning 41 of Luther's 95 theses, and giving him 60 days to recant, otherwise he would be excommunicated and murdered as a heretic. Luther didn't back down in those 60 days, so he was excommunicated and cut off from the Catholic Church. And at the Edict of Worms, he was branded an outlaw by Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, and was said that if he was found, he would be executed, and if anyone hid him, they would be guilty by association of him, and would be punished the same. He gave anyone legal freedom to kill Martin Luther without legal consequence. Martin Luther was running around Europe for his life because he challenged the corrupt authority of the Catholic Church at that time. Martin Luther WASN'T a saint. I know. But I applaud him for standing up for corruption and calling an ace an ace in a time where the Catholic Church dominated everything and was greedy and corrupt. We all know he let pride get to him, and he said things that I disagree with, and was very anti-semitic at the end of his life. But him calling out the Catholic Church on what they were doing that was wrong- Absolutely spot on. And in the Bible, there is this principle of accountability, like when Paul called out Peter (whom you guys consider to be the first Pope, despite the fact that he was on equal terms with Paul and the other disciples, and that he was married and had a mother-in-law (Paul calls out Peter- Galatians 2:11-15, Peter's mother-in-law- Matthew 8:14-15), and other times where Jesus called out Peter on things, or Jesus calling out the Pharisees on things that were corrupt or hypocritical. You want to defend the entirety of Protestantism? I disagree with some of them, I am not the champion of them, just as much as you are not the champion of Roman Catholicism. I disagree with what the Mormons believe. What the Jehovah Witnesses believe. I do not believe the "Once save, always saved" belief of the Baptists. I disagree with the term "Lutheran", because the religion is Christianity, not Martin Luther. But we can do the same thing with Roman Catholicism with doctrines that are Biblically unsound: - Doctrine of Immaculate Conception (and using the Infancy Gospels of Matthew, Thomas, and James is NOT going to cut it, since those were written way after the main Gospels by an author who cannot be identified, and how these pseudo gospels contain things that are unbiblical- like Jesus being born in a cave, Mary having an examination, no wise men, etc. The Gospel of Luke, and things that Paul says in Romans and Hebrews contradict this too). - Perpetual Virginity - Assumption of Mary - The Speculative Theology of Limbo - The "authority" of the pope as the "vicar of Christ" - Praying to Mary for intercession (Yes, I know what you may be tempted to say. "We aren't praying to Mary, we are asking her to pray for us. Revelations 22:8-9 shows that not even an angel wants a man to bow before him as an act of worship, but to worship God alone. We could go into the whole Hail Mary business on the Rosary and "Hail Holy Queen of Heaven". - Sacraments as a means of increasing or decreasing grace. - Confessing to a priest so a priest can be the middle man between you and God. When Jesus taught us to pray, it was directly to God in a room by ourselves with the door closed. Nothing wrong with confessing sings to each other, but no need for a middle man when God knows everything we do. - The 7 Books of the Bible that the Protestants don't have, but you have, which are really nothing more than Jewish folklore, skeptical theology. I mean the Book of Tobit has magic and the angel Raphael trying to help Tobit sleep with his newly wed wife before the demon Asmodeus kills him. There are a lot of other things I could say. - Praying to saints for protection. Feast days for saints. Wearing Saint medals. - The Catholic Church claiming infallibility in their practices and doctrines, meaning they are protected from making errors or mistakes via Christ's holiness and infallibility. If Peter could make mistakes, what makes you think that men in a church or incapable of making mistakes. - The Catholic Church claiming that they are the only way to salvation through Christ. What arrogance! www.catholic.com/magazine/online-edition/is-there-really-no-salvation-outside-the-catholic-church These are just a handful of things I disagree with. Considering the amount of time I spent on this, I will get to your questions sometime soon.
@matthias66

@@Ryan_Zell While you are working on getting that 10 page response ready, the answer to this question will be much shorter. Sola Scriptura is a principle, not a Biblical doctrine, in my estimation. The principle behind it, although it unfortunately has been misused by Protestants and Catholics, who misconstrued or misinterpreted certain Scriptures and created their own deviant ideas of things. But the principle behind it is to avoid error by sticking to what the Bible say, and not relying on tradition or other things as additive inspiration. How do Protestants believe in the Blessed Trinity? Easy! The Bible. Let's start off in Genesis 1:26. I'll even go with a Catholic translation, the NVSV: Then God said, “Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the wild animals of the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.” This tells us a couple things. First of all, God refers to Himself in the plural ("Let US", "OUR likeness"). And secondly, it sounds like He is having a conversation with Himself, but that there is an acknowledgement of one or more individuals. So the Old Testament talks about God the Father, and His relationship with the country He made a covenant with Abraham- the nation of Israel. Let's fast forward to the New Testament. I don't really need to put a bunch of Scripture on Jesus talking about His Father in Heavenly, referring to God as our "Heavenly Father", and how Jesus and God are One. So we know by inductive reasoning, based on Genesis 1:26, God in the Old Testament, and Jesus referring to Him and God as a Father/Son relationship, that they are united, and that Jesus said that He was before Abraham (John 8:58) and used the same term that God used to describe Himself to Moses in Exodus (Exodus 3:14). So we have God the Father and God the Son. But to have a Trinity, there needs to be a 3rd party. The Holy Spirit. Which came in after Jesus died and resurrected into Heaven. Jesus predicted His coming in John. He also said anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, in this age or the next (Mark 3:28-30) John 14:25 "I have told you this while I’m still with you. 26 However, the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything. He will remind you of everything that I have ever told you." And of course Paul talks about the Holy Spirit too in his letters to different churches. Add up everything together- God the Father (Old Testament, New Testament), God the Son Jesus Christ (New Testament), and the Holy Spirit (New Testament), although as Genesis 1:26 pointed out, all these parts of God existed before the very creation of mankind.

@@Ryan_Zell I can agree that there is division between various Protestant denominations, but I would also say that there are a lot of problems with what I see in Roman Catholicism too. And I'm sure I would disagree with Eastern Orthodox to a certain extent as well. I have never debated a Jehovah's Witness before, who is a non-Trinitarian, but it was a friendly discourse of a difference in ideology. And I do not agree with all the different Protestant denomination. The very word "Protestant" means "in protest of", which in the case of history, is Roman Catholicism. It basically means if you are in disagreement with Catholic teachings and you protest them, you are a "Protestant". It doesn't mean you have to have an affiliation with a certain branch or denomination. And it is the Catholic Church's teachings that I disagree with, not individual Catholics, with some of whom I am friends with. Just like you disagree with a lot of Protestant ideas, as a Protestant, I disagree with the some of the teachings of the Catholic Church. You keep speaking of "the Church". Does the Church bring salvation, or is it Jesus Christ? He is the head of the body of the Church (Colossians 1:18). But whoever said that Jesus said that one denomination would be supreme over all other denominations of Christianity, as Catholic Church likes to believe. Yes, I know, Matthew 16:18, the verse that the Catholic Church uses to justify its religious supremacy. lifehopeandtruth.com/change/the-church/on-what-rock-did-christ-build-his-church/ Paul states in Galatians 2:7-8 "On the contrary, they saw that I had been entrusted to preach the gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter had been to the Jews. For God, who was at work in Peter’s apostleship to the Jews, was also at work in my apostleship to the Gentiles." So if Peter was entrusted to preach to the Jews, even if he started a church in Rome, does that really make him the pope- the representative of all Christianity? A man who was married, and was held accountable by Paul for first eating with Gentiles and Jews, and then deciding to eat with only Jews (Galatians 2:11-14). So in my estimation, the focus should be on Christ. And when I hear ridiculous things, like the pope, granting indulgences for doing certain things (yes, the Catholic Church still practices and believes in indulgences), I just shake my head. Only God can forgive sins. Also, Purgatory is unbiblical, because the Bible states that Christ's sacrifice was enough for all time. www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-44294906

There are way too many misunderstandings about Catholicism, and if he is undoubtedly sure that his beliefs are 100% true, he should have no problem doing this. This helps to understand any religion even if you have no interest in converting. Also, saying "Catholicism vs. Christianity" is synonymous to saying "dogs vs. mammals".

Catholics believe we have TO DO SOMETHING (4:56) What?? Wherever did they get THAT IDEA FROM??!! The Final Judgment 31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38 And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39 And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[a] you did it to me.’ 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” (Matthew 25:31 - 46) THE SHEEP ARE SAVED BY WHAT THEY DO!! "6 For he will repay according to each one’s deeds: 7 to those who by patiently doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; 8 while for those who are self-seeking and who obey not the truth but wickedness, there will be wrath and fury." (Romans 2:6-8) ACCORDING TO THIER DEEDS?? Really??!! Faith without Works Is Dead "14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? 15 If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill’, and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? 17 So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Show me your faith without works, and I by my works will show you my faith. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe-and shudder. 20 Do you want to be shown, you senseless person, that faith without works is barren? 21 Was not our ancestor Abraham justified by works when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was brought to completion by the works. 23 Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness’, and he was called the friend of God. 24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 Likewise, was not Rahab the prostitute also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by another road? 26 For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is also dead." (James 2:14-26) FAITH IF IT HAS NO WORKS IS DEAD?? YOU SEE THAT A PERSON IS JUSTIFIED BY WORKS AND NOT BY FAITH ALONE?? Hmmmm??!!! God bless :o)

Uisge Beo faith without works is a dead faith because faith in the wrong object produces no fruit. I wouldn’t take his message personally tho. Plenty of Catholics are false converts because they get baptized and go to confession and go to mass and take the Eucharist but it’s all just going thru the motions. Protestant has their downside too, they say something to the effect of accept Jesus as your personal savior and say the sinners prayer with me and then declare them saved after they confess jesus is lord and he rose from the dead, and then off they go. There’s usually no genuine repentance and trust in the savior in this approach either. If you’re really God’s elect I wouldn’t worry too much about Ray, this guy does way better than most. He’s a hard worker for the great commission.

Jesus Christ did *ALL THE WORK* necessary for our Salvation! Start believing that today while you still have breath and a heartbeat! You must repent and believe in the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins! That is your ONLY hope! Nowhere in the Bible are we instructed to trust in a Church institution for our Salvation and eternal life.

@@BecomeAnOrthodoxChristian ... *GREAT NEWS* for any Catholic like yourself who doesn't believe that salvation and eternal life can be assured! Let's see what the Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible has to say! 1John 5:11-13 states: *'And this is the testimony, that God HATH given to us eternal life. And this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son, hath life. He that hath not the Son, hath not life. These things I write to you, that you may KNOW that you have eternal life, you who believe in the name of the Son of God.'* WOW it says right there in the Catholic Bible that you can *KNOW* that you *have* eternal life! Awesome isn't it?! Jesus said, "I am telling you the truth, whoever believes in me has eternal life." (John 6:47). Admit you are a sinner, repent, and put your faith in the Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you will *have* eternal life! And after you have received this eternal life by faith - go out and make your best effort to live a repentant and holy life pleasing to the Lord!

Ray, Catholics do not believe that we inherit salvation simply by doing good deeds. As a young Catholic, when I first encountered Jesus when I was 15, I really struggled with my Catholic faith because I watched many Protestant sermons, and I heard many people speak against the Church. But after asking the Lord to show me what is true, here's my humble understanding of what the Catholic church really teaches. I hope this maybe clears some things up. Scripture makes it clear that we are saved by grace through faith,“ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 Protestants always say we are saved by grace through faith ALONE. But where is the word ALONE in this Scripture? If we look at Romans 3:23-24 it says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." But again, where does it say alone? "Then what becomes of our boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? By a law of works? No, but by the law of faith. For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law." Romans 3:23-28 It says we are saved by the law of faith, apart from the works of the law. But what about James 2:24... "You see that a man is justified by works and NOT by faith ALONE." I believe that when Protestants refer these such scriptures, they often twist the meaning because it is not viewed in the biblical and historical context of the text. Faith alone is never taught in scripture. When we look in the historical context, "works of the law" has a specific and technical definition. Protestants say that it is good deeds. But in Paul's day, if you were a Jew, you had to do the works of the law, which is what made you recognizable as a Jew (circumcision, Sabbath, etc.). These were the works of the law. It distinguished them from the Gentiles. Paul was saying that you do not get saved by doing all these 'Jewish' things or by following all the rules (the Jews know 613 laws). The Jews during those times said that people could not become Christians (believe in Christ) because the Messiah belonged to the Jews, so they would have to become Jewish first. But the church passed a dogma that allowed people to be saved by faith, thus they didn't have to become a Jew. This is why Abraham keeps coming up in Galatians and Romans, because Paul was asking them how their father Abraham was saved - he was saved by faith, not by the works of the law (they didn't even have the Mosaic law). When we look at John 3:16, it says "...whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have everlasting life." But when we read it from the Jewish text it means he who "is believing", meaning that it is a continual thing. Abraham is the father of faith because he did everything God told him to do - he believed, but 'believing' wouldn't mean anything if he didn't pick up everything he owned to go to a different land. But then, Abraham goes and builds an altar to the Lord, and the bible says he 'called upon the name of the Lord'. The bible also says that if you 'call upon the name of the Lord' you shall be saved. So did Abraham get saved here instead? Then Genesis 15:6 it says Abraham believed in God and it was counted to him as righteousness. Is this when he got saved? Abraham believed God even when he was asked to kill his own son, and this is why it was counted to him as righteousness. But Abraham didn't just beleive God, he OBEYED God. James says Abhraham was justified when he offered up his son Isaac. That's why he's the father of faith. So we are not saved by faith alone. Acts 16:31 - believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. This is the 'Catholic' gospel. So what does the world believe mean? John 3:36 "believe on the Son of God and you will have life. DISOBEY the Son of God and you will not have life." The OPPOSITE OF THE WORD BELIEVE IS DISOBEDIENCE!! Not 'disbelief'! The word 'believe' is almost a code word. The word believe in the Bible means to OBEY! If we really believe, but don't do the action that proves we believe, that 'faith' is useless. Believing Jesus means to obey him, to die for him, to give everything and surrender all to him. Even repentance is something that you actually DO. BELIEVE is a verb. So we have to DO something. Even ACCEPT is a verb. So if we accept the free gift of God, we have to DO something. The Bible says we are saved by believing, repentence, water baptism, by the work of the Spirit, if you confess with your moutht hat Jesus is Lord, that you come to the knowledge of the truth, etc. There's a whole list of things that are included in the word believe. So when the Lord says believe, we have to do all these things. This is why faith alone is never used in the bible.
@cantushea4659

The works you've mentioned show that one believes. They are not what saves us; they are just an expression of the faith we already have. Salvation is a work of God. We cannot save ourselves. Even faith itself is a gift of God. That's why it says that no one should boast as if they did something to attain salvation. Apostle Paul's conversion is a very good example. He was actually on his way to kill Christians when God saved him. He did nothing to get salvation; it was a gift from God. The "faith alone" is implied. The thief on the cross was never baptised but he was saved by believing in Christ.

Roman Catholicism only started during the 4th Century when Emperor Constantine in AD.325 promoted a mixture of Christianity & Roman Paganism in an attempt to unite the Roman Empire. True Christians never joined this church and that’s why they were severely persecuted. Anyway, many independent Bible Bible-Believing churches today trace their roots back to the Apostles & Jesus Christ and not to the 16th Century Protestant Reformation. By the way, if the Catholic church is the True Church of Jesus Christ then why does it teaches doctrines that CONTRADICT the Words of Jesus and His Apostles? Here's an example: Mary as Co-redemptrix, Mediatrix, and Advocate. But here's what the Bible says... JESUS is the ONE & ONLY MEDIATOR, INTERCESSOR & ADVOCATE 1 Timothy 2:5 - For there is one God and one MEDIATOR between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus Heb 7:25 - Therefore He is able also to save to the uttermost those who come unto God by Him, since He ever lives to make INTERCESSION for them. 1 John 2:1 - My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an ADVOCATE with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Also, the Bible condemns prayers to Mary & the dead saints; bowing to idols; etc.(Exo 20:4,5 & 1Tim 2:5) [The Bible warns: WHOSOEVER TRANSGRESSETH, AND ABIDETH NOT IN THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, HATH NOT GOD - 2Jn 1:9] I will pray for you and by God’s Grace hope you will believe in Christ ALONE for salvation. For the Bible says that JESUS CHRIST is the ONE & ONLY MEDIATOR (1 Tim 2:5), INTERCESSOR (Heb 7:25) & ADVOCATE ( 1 John 2:1). (Note: Other unbiblical Roman Catholic blasphemies: the un-bloody sacrifice of the mass, purgatory, Mary’s Immaculate Conception, etc. ) Anyone who does not hold to the right ESSENTIAL doctrines is not really a Christian at all. If someone (Catholic, Protestant, Pentecostal, Charismatic, Baptist, Independent, etc) doesn't have the right essential doctrines, he or she doesn't have Christ [ 2 JOHN 1:9] He or she is inadvertently worshipping another "Jesus" and "another spirit" (2 Cor 11:4) !!!!

@@ChristiansofAsia Brother, why are you so adamant that Catholics don't rely on Christ for salvation? The Bible says believe in the Lord Jesus and you shall be saved. That IS the Catholic message. I never said that saints or Mary will give me salvation.. You are twisting my words. We believe that Jesus is the one mediator. Let me ask you this - when you ask a friend to pray for you, does the friend become a mediator between you and God? If I use your rationale, then that means you too are contradicting the Bible when you ask others to pray for you. But asking someone to pray for you does not automatically make them the mediator in the sense of what the Bible is saying in 1 Timothy 2:5.. When a friend prays for you, are they not interceding? Does that mean that they somehow have sinned against God? Of course not! I do not worship Mary or the saints. And purgatory is biblical brother.. it's in the old testament. I too struggled with the concept of purgatory, but the Holy Spirit led me to 2 Maccabees 12:39-45. Please read this, it cleared up my question about whether or not purgatory is real. Also, what about all the miracles of the Eucharist that have even been scientifically claimed as miracles?? What about all the saints that have lived without ANY food for YEARS, except for the Eucharist? Please do not be quick to assume that everyone in a denomination is the same. There may be a few Catholics that do not have the Spirit of God, but I humbly ask that you do not assume that every Catholic is like that. I have seen people coming to Christ and have myself been delivered from depression when I was 15 years old. The Lord saved me and if it weren't for his grace and mercy I wouldn't be here today. I asked him to give me deliverance from depression, but he gave me His Spirit and I have never been the same since. I sincerely wish you the best, may the Lord bless you and keep you.

But then you somehow attach the "Catholic" word to it with all its teachings and other things coming along with it that are not found anywhere in God's Word. So, from out of nowhere people are suddenly dealing with all Catholic inventions (heresies) brought into the Church in the Book of Acts. Again, a Catholic may put it this or that way, but there will be no support found in the Bible. Start at least from the Papacy. The pope who is kind of a God's deputy - what a fallacy. Of course, there are many more things that are clear heresy for those who seeks the truth by relying on God's Word only. Simply put away for a moment everything, forget all you know, all your beliefs/persuasions/convictions and start from the scratch - from the Bible, from God's Word. And that way you should be able to teach yourself with absolutely everything included into a package. Nothing else is needed to know aside from what is found in the Bible. When Catholics refer to works it means how they show that they follow Jesus. This is far from bribery and it’s very Biblical. In Matthew 7:21-27 Jesus talks about “true disciples” and how only the people who do the will of His Father will enter the Kingdom of God. This is a big misconception that miseducates people about the Catholic faith.

Feedthe5000 Jesus did say we have to eat his body and drink his blood and he did say we have to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, etc. so he did give us some work to do. we can't be lazy Christians now can we?

Mark Howell-PaulAgain Mark Howell-PaulAgain Yes, but these aren’t the reasons we are saved. If we don’t do these things before we die that doesn’t mean we won’t end up in heaven. Although the doing or not doing of these things may be a indicator of where our heart is at, it isn’t a requirement to obtain salvation as the Roman Catholic Church states. (I’m mainly talking about the meritorious works part)

Why are ther so many churches. But the Catholic church follows the same teachings as churches and has been here for centuries .

Rome controlled the Gospel for 1500 years and killed and punished anyone who didn't agree with them. That's a pretty good way of keeping the flock. Control through a fear based system. Denominations are just man's way of trying to create a labeled institute for people to recognize. We have been doing it since the beginning. When we die and meet Christ he's not going to ask which church denomination we belonged to. Like the thief on the cross, we must trust entirely on Gods Grace for salvation.

@Fides Et Ratio Denominations have nothing to do with salvation. Being born again does. The church fathers were very wrong in a lot of ways just like any human can be. Does that mean that they weren't being led by the Holy Spirit? Of course not. A lot of the historical beliefs and doctrines of Rome were later developments and were not founded upon the scriptures. I could name a handful that seem to contradict scripture however usually in my experience it will make little difference with these kind of discussions. The beautiful thing about God revealing to us His Word is that we can now weigh all of history against it and see if there are things that go against the scriptures. Whether your a protestant or a catholic is no matter. To follow Jesus is a label that needs not to be prescribed too. Proof is in the fruit of the spirit. I do believe that there are obvious issues within all the churches in Christ however. Questions for any believer to ask themselves are 1- am i relying solely upon Jesus for my salvation? 2- is my faith active and growing in sanctification or is it just legal and fear based? 3- is there a difference in the way I live as compared to before I became born again? -Blessings

@Fides Et Ratio I do like listening to Robert Barron thx. I also like Mitch Pacwa. Let me ask you something if I may.....why is it, if you do, attend mass at least every Sunday? Are you receiving sacrifices or atonement for sins in any way?
@joebartholomew82

@@ulysses7653 actually Protestantism was an inevitable result do to the fact that once the scriptures were available to the common people, the people started to realize that Rome was teaching things that didn't align with God's Word. Rome had the luxury of teaching and developing doctrine throughout history without being questioned due to the scriptures not being available to anyone other than who Rome choose to make it accessible too.

@@ulysses7653 the Jews were also given and entrusted with God's Word and Jesus rebuked them. Same is true for anyone that is acting contrary to God's revealed Word. Interpreting the scriptures in fine but when that interpretation contradicts the Word we have an issue. Can you find for me in the NT where selling indulgences is located? Or the treasury of the merit of the saints? Also, where does the NT talk about a specific priesthood that performs mass for the people so that they can receive graces for their sins? Where does it say one HAS to believe in Mary's perpetual virginity and bodily assumption in order to be a true believer? What about the part where not attending a sacrificial mass at least every Sunday is a grave sin that leads to hell? What about people lighting candles and kneeling and praying in front of statues? I could go on and on.... Here's truth. God saved me from drugs, alcohol and sin through Christ and the Gospel. I have been born again and a soldier for Christ for 8 years now. I have brought others to Christ through the Holy Spirit. I was born Catholic and alsl that it did is distract me from Jesus with all it's legalism and make me very religious. blessings my friend.

Proud Catholic Revert here! Sorry Ray Comfort. There is too much about the church I love. I love My Lord and that should be all that matters, right? But it sadly seems on here we Christians can't just be happy for each other. We all believe in God and that the Lord Jesus saved us. Nothing else matters! God Bless you all. xxoo

CurlyGrey17 ... actually Catholics are Not Christians!!... The New Testament tells us that if anyone teaches anything other than what's in Scritpture than they are under God's curse!!.. therefore you catholics are under God's curse...we are telling you to turn to Jesus and the New Testament only!!! Please google a side by side comparison of Roman Catholic and Bible doctrines!!

Adding onto what Lydia said... many aspects of Catholicism are unbiblical. for example - purgatory. however, i encourage you to do your own research online and in God's word. I will pray for you to find the truth.

Well said George. This is what I just don't understand, the catholic church was the first church, and they compiled the bible as you said. So many have forgotten where they come from. Where their church has come from. It boggles the mind.

Thank you George :) I totally agree with you and love the catholic church. A lot of people speak about being born again. I feel that has happened to me. I was born a catholic, left the church for over 15 years and found the church again. I call myself a catholic revert. I think if I hadn't left it during my teenage/early twenties, I would not have found the beauty she has to offer. I love the catholic church more than anything now. I just wish others would see this too. I feel born again, just within my church! Praise God! God bless you George. :))
