Join Dr. Luis Pocasangre Enamorado, the General Director of CATIE, as he unveils some of the best-kept secrets of the CATIE Botanical Garden, Dr. Jorge León Arguedas, located in Turrialba.
As part of an initiative driven by the General Directorate, at the time led by Dr. Pedro Ferreira, it was decided to open to the public on December 14th, 2001, transforming it into a site of scientific interest, conservation, education, tourism, and recreation.
Since the 1940s, education, introduction, conservation, and distribution of germplasm have been objectives of the Germplasm Banks and the CATIE Botanical Garden, making visitor attention also a priority with the aim of projecting all that knowledge to the Turrialba community, nationally, and internationally.
The garden preserves an invaluable collection. It houses over 4,400 genetic samples representing approximately 400 plant species from different parts of the world.
