I always preferred the “o-o-oh-oh-oh” bridge of this version, without the higher pitched additional harmonizing voice of the other

This version of the theme song leaves me to believe that Heathcliff was originally meant to be a side-attraction to the antics of the Catillac Cats.

The show was initially just Cats and Company, as their episodes were animated first, but the buyers in syndication wanted a known character attached to it. DiC Enterprises had acquired the rights to Heathcliff from the cancelled Ruby Spears version, then tailored Cats and Company (The Catallac Cats)into a Heathcliff based show with Cats and Co. backing him up. The rest is history.

I always looked at it like; Heathcliff ran the Neighborhood side and Riff Raff ran the Junkyard industrial side of town... probably sperated by train tracks. Hector, Wordsworth and Mungo where "runner" cats that brought stuff back to the junkyard and respected Heathcliff's gangster (he could fight) and became cool with him in his territory. Riff Raff and heathcliff we're both orange cats also with stripes from my experience orange cats with stripes are very territorial and more aggressive than other cats in the litters.

I was just looking for the version I know which is “Heathcliff Heathcliff no one should, terrify the neighborhood” I’m over here thinking this is some other Mandela effect bs. Thank you for clarifying it!

Heathcliffs owner company at the time was a salty butthole to sum it up and didn’t want outside characters interacting with heathcliff outside their control.

Well, Heathcliff is a cat. And I think the Catillac Cats were called Cats & Co. while they were sorting out legal issues with GM. However, they were never referred to as such on the show, so you may have something.

Hector Defendi Heh, I should've guessed from your profile pic. So, perhaps you may know this one. I know that Chuck Lorre (of Two and a Half Men) co-developed this series. Do you know who wrote the episode "Kitten Around"? I'm thinking it might be him because Riff Raff pulls a few Charlie Harper-esque moves.

True, but sometimes hearing the song on it's own is cool by itself. On the Shuki Levy website you can download the Heathcliff theme (the regular version) without the sound effects, and it sounds great. Also some of the lyrics are more clear.

I remember Heathcliff and Catillac Cats being separate in the cartoon. Like how Garfield and friends never had episodes of Garfield actually with the friends (Those weird farm animals) Were there ever any episodes where Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats were in the same story?

Don't quote me on this, because I got the information from Wikipedia, and they are known to have false information, but it is speculated that the company that owned the rights to Heathcliff did not want any outside characters appearing on the show, which makes no sense, considering Hector, Wordsworth, and Mungo were in both segments. However, Wikipedia also mentioned that the three of them were created to specifically be in both segments (not sure if that makes any sense or not). Interestingly, they didn't appear in the Heathcliff segments in the second season.

There was an episode where a boxing match or some sort of fight was going on and you can see Riff Raff in the crowd cheering... That's it as far as I know.

The Catallac Cats segments were animated first as the show was initially supposed to be theirs entirely. The trio of Hector, Wordsworth, and Mungo were added to the Heathcliff segments to make them familiar to viewers and a sense of continuity with the segments they appear in with Riff Raff.

I see NOW why they changed the theme song to heathcliff. "Cats and company" sounds too generic and bland, which makes you think it could have been a brand name of some cat corporate company. Any who, seeing how the cadilac cats storyboard theme and tone was different from heathcliff's , being a product of french producers, it made sense why riff-raff and the gangs story featured old european movie genre.

In VHS Distrebution terms I think this may be the one on Harmony Gold UK's Kids Cartoon Collection brand by Mastertronic/Intervision's Mastervision called Heathcliff Volume 1 as I heard this theme was on one of the rarer original VHS releases so that might be the rare tape with this intro as it would make sence as Harmony Gold may not own the rights to use the proper DIC song on their VHS copie. The other theme song was used on the RCA Magic Windows Range for definite though as I've seen VHS openings which meant they got the music rights by DIC on these ones. I wish someone would do the opening from the KCC copy to see if it is this one to close any truth to these rumors of a rarer tape using this one. The Stereo sound just seems too good for Poo Gold though. But then again TV use proper master tapes and not the home copies especially if the DIC version is worn out and they need to show a KCC it would be a master KCC version over the crap Mono one.

The real lyrics that no one seems to know. 0:28 "The gang will reign supreme, and no one can deny. They'll make "um" history, and always have an alibi." It was never some history it was always um history as in kill or get rid of. That's just how some people would talk back then. They would say um instead of them due to their accent. If you still don't believe me try listening carefully one last time because it makes more sense to me then saying some. The only thing is that talking about getting rid of someone is not very pc for a kids song, but think about it... neither is talking about your gang and reigning supreme. In closing I just want you all to know this was my favorite song as a kid, and I'm not trying to stir up trouble just open a few eyes. If someone would like to tell me how the word some makes more sense the slang term um I would be glad to listen.

+Keith2800 I think you mean to say "make 'em history" rather than "make um history", but ya, that definitely is what they're saying in this song, and it makes way more sense in context, especially with the following line of "and always have an alibi". The song is saying that the gang (the Catillac Cats) will reign supreme by wiping out the competition and they'll always have an alibi.

+superhempy Nope. Apparently the Catillac Cats was an original idea that got stuck with the owners as Heathcliff as a major financier, so of course he got top billing. This team was supposed to be the original and /only/ focus.
