Actually, Reba's two most iconic songs were songs that had already been made Iconic by other artists. Fancy was a big hit (and written by) Bobbie Gentry, and The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia was a #1 hit for Vicki Lawrence (Yes, Mama from THe Carol Burnett Show and Mama's Family). You should really listen to those versions first.

Cast of characters Narrator/Sister: Killed Andy (and left the tracks “too small for Andy to make”) and the wife, and buried the wife’s body Brother (protagonist): Went to Andy’s house to kill Andy, but found him already dead Brother’s wife: Cheated on brother with Seth, Andy and probably the judge (debatable) Andy: Brother’s best friend, slept with brother’s wife Seth: Slept with brother’s wife (seems to be a long term relationship behind the brother’s back) Sheriff: Just lazy, didn’t want to investigate further. Judge: May just be lazy, or may have slept with the wife. This is a little unclear. Does the judge have “bloodstains” because he convicted an innocent man, or because he too slept brother’s wife? I tend to believe the former.

This is the info behind this song.. Returning home from a two-week trip to a place called Candletop, a man, identified only as “Brother,” stops for a drink at Webb’s Bar before going home to his wife. While there, he encounters his friend Andy, who informs him that Brother’s wife has had affairs with both Andy and another man, “that Amos boy, Seth.Angry and scared, Brother goes home to find his gun, presuming his wife’s continued absence was because she had left town. Quietly, he makes his way through the woods to Andy’s house. On the way there, he finds a set of footprints leading up to and back from the house, but they look too small to have been made by Andy. Arriving at Andy’s back door, Brother looks through the screen and, to his horror, finds Andy’s dead body.To get the attention of the Georgia State Patrol, Brother fires a shot in the air; the sheriff on patrol mistakenly assumes that the gunshot was the one that killed Andy and arrests Brother for murder. In a show trial, the judge wastes little time declaring Brother guilty of Andy’s murder and then sentencing him to death by hanging, which is carried out in short order. The story wraps up as the narrator, revealing herself as Brother’s younger sister. She confesses that it was she who had left the footprints that her brother had encountered on his way to Andy’s house. And that she had not only shot and killed Andy with her own gun but the adulterous wife as well, in her case disposing of the body in a way that no one would ever find it.In the song’s chorus, Little Sister blames the Georgia criminal justice system for Brother’s death, warning the listener, Don’t trust your soul to no backwoods Southern lawyer, ’cause the judge in the town’s got bloodstains on his hands.”

Another killer "story: in a country song is Kenny Rogers' "Lucille." That song just grabbed me as a child. You probably know "The Gambler" by him already, which is a good song, but Lucille has heart and heartbreak. I really enjoyed this! I'm ignorant about country music but I'm fast realizing I need to listen to more of it. Chris Stapleton and such. I look forward to your explorations so I can ride your shirt-tails. Onward, J!

The song is a cover song that was performed by Vicki Lawrence, who was an actress who stared on Mama's Family and the Carol Burnett Show.

LOVE this reaction! Your face on that reveal, it was great. Same as others, I'm not a country fan but love Reba. FYI - she sang the hell out of this, but it's a cover. Original by Vicki Lawrence in... '70? '71? I don't remember. Crazy because she's actually a comedian who was on the Carol Burnett show, so it shocked me when my dad told me she sang this song! Gotta recommend Reba's FANCY for your next country reaction. Amazing song, amazing story, gives me chills just thinking about it!

This is a great song. Done originally by Vicki Lawrence from Carole Burnette show, who played Mama from Mamas Family. Your reaction is priceless. Incredible story. This is fron 90s by Reba but it was original in 70s

This was a fantastic video I loved your reactions to the story telling. Tim McGraw - Don't Take The Girl is another good storyteller.

***REMAKE*** VICKI LOWRANCE ( one Hit Wonder was a regular on THE CAROL BURNETTE SHOW and had her own show later on called MAMAS FAMILY ) Vicki Lowrance was the first to sing this song, her husband wrote the song and she sang the song originally back around 1973. Reba McIntyre sang the song Just as it was originally.

Other queens of country... The Judds. Mother and daughter duo. Their most famous song is “Love Can Build a Bridge”. Probably a song all of us need right now. An absolute anthem. (Lyric) “Don’t you think it’s time?” I do. ❤️
