I have had the same thing happen to my horse. Stung by wasp's. He bolted damaged the cart badly. But I continued to drive him and compete in show's for year's.

Why did they start yelling and screaming at the horse that just scares it more

Why didn't they take the horse's out of the ring when the while thing started? Sure the bees may have started it... but everything else was completely human error.

The people were stupid. Shouting, running and trying to grab. Get the other horses and people to safety. Keep quiet and let him run. That will reduce the risk to everyone

“It wasn’t driver error, since Paul is an expert.” Bullshit. Experts fuck up all the time. I don’t care if you’re an expert or not, you’re human and you have no idea what that horse is experiencing.

It was the people. It's always the people. The horse was freaking out and the people made it worse by chasing the horse, yelling, and being crazy! If they staid calm, the horse would be too. Seriously people!?

They say, right at the end of the video, that the horse was reacting to being stung by a bee.

These horses are not really safe under harness because they are easy to panic. Just ask yourself what the major difference is between Arabian horses and the carriage breeds. Not size. Not trainability. Calm temperment is the key . It would take more than being buzzed by bees or even stung to cause total panic in a well trained draft or coach breed. I had Arabian horses that I used trail riding and under saddle there were times they spooked BUT close contact saved the day. Under harness you have no contact and very little control as proved by this video. Imagine if this happened on a road.

All horses panic during carriage events, it's not one breed. All horses are trainable. Even horses who are the draft types will get spook by a bee sting.

What went wrong? only *EVERYTHING THAT POSSIBLY COULD*. Absolutely nobody involved in this fiasco did ANYTHING that was even remotely correct. That ring should have been empty of horses and rigs before the runaway finished his second lap af†er the initial crash.

The poor horse can't see what's by the side of him because of the blinkers. So it was lucky for the man that he didn't get run over by the horse.

I'll tell ya what the problem was here... the people! The people didn't prepare these horses well enough for this, the people, these 'professional trainers', apparently don't know that if you pull on both reins to stop a spooked horse that s/he will brace and keep on running, and what idiot gets in the way of a spooked and blinded horse, and/or starts yelling at them?!? It's no wonder that guy got run over, the poor horse can't see!! I can go on a whole other rant on blinders, just the thought of blinding a 1,000lb flight animal screams stupidity to me. Notice how the horse at 5:00 has no blinders? Yeah, he just realized he's dragging something behind him which is why he's running as fast as he can. You can see this clearly at 5:27, the bridle with blinders is hanging at his chest. Blinders are nothing but a short cut, a dangerous one! And who the hell jumps on a horse after he's just fallen?!? Do the words 'prey animal' mean nothing to these self proclaimed 'experts'?? Just plain idiocy all around here and just for a dumb trophy! As usual the poor horses suffer!

Bad training no doubt I agree. However sometimes there's nothing you can do the best trained horses can spook and get stupid, shit happens. HOWEVER>....this is why it's a good idea to have a seasoned cowboy and a damn good roping horse on the sidelines.....could have got that stopped in a minute.

You're an idiot and the reasons are multiple but I'll use the ones with small concepts so you can keep up. * no one can train a horse to "be prepared" for disturbed bees swarming. * people wave/get in front of/toss things in front of bolting animals to catch their attention. Hopefully to grab a rein/rope and stop it. * show horses are used to loud noises like crowds and bangs. There's no diffence between congratulatory whistles/ applause and the yaps/squeals of horror to a horse. * herd animals will want to join others when alarmed. * they "jumped" the downed horse to blindfold it and lay it's head to the ground, where they leaned on its neck to keep it still so his tack can be easily and quickly removed. (As seen in the vid and common action in this circumstance.)

At 6.19, you can see the hardly breeding of the mutilated horse on the ground, without any proffessional medic to help him really, just a bunch of "no life Cowboys" and "silly Granny".

Expert horseman? Not in my opinion and experience. I've never seen a horse kick quite so high/hard and its responding to him yanking on the reins which makes everything worse. Strikes me as one of those old rich folks who likes to buy horses and doesn't have much hands-on since he has others train the horses. Like cars and airplanes, anyone can drive one if its straight and level, but when things go wrong the expert knows how to handle it.
