This is a walk to Cauldron Snout along the River Tees from the cow barn by Harwood Beck along the farm track opposite (54°40'24.4"N 2°14'19.8"W) and passing through Widdy Bank Farm. We continue along the side of the Tees, over the rocks and duck boards until reaching Cauldron Snout.
At of 180 metres this is Englands longest waterfall, although it is more of a cascade of waterfalls, not a single drop, like its neighbour High Force a little further down stream.
We then ascend the falls on the northern bank, which is a bit of a scramble, until we meet the roadway that services Cow Green Resovoir.
The metaled road surface makes the rest of the far easier than what has already been achieved. We make our way to the road that runs along the top of the dam and follow the road to the junction that serves the car park at Cow Green Resovoir.
From this jusnction is is a 1½ mile walk slightly down hill back to the cow barn.
