Speaking of parts... I'm a 68 year old male and my 2015 Ultra Classic has been sitting in my local dealership for 72 days waiting on parts!!! Twin Cam stage 4 Screaming Eagle 103ci to 110ci kit... 75 days total without riding and I'm retired, so just sitting on my butt waiting on the Harley Davidson Factory on parts!! I tried staying focused on how much I am looking forward to geting it back... always thinking it will be soon... But it's like a switch flipped this morning and I started looking at Indian's online because I'm so pissed Doc!!! My local Harley Davidson service manager has been doing his best but Harley Davidson really dropped the ball on me this time... And then I find out that my cylinders finally came in this afternoon, by the way of a notice of being shipped on 6/6/23 but never having a tracking number... I always thought that I'd move on to a Tri-Glide if I wasn't able to ride my Ultra Classic anymore... But I don't think so now... Who wants to spend that kind of money on something and have it possibly sit around for well over 2 months out of the year... waiting on frickin PARTS!!! Did I mention I finally got pissed off today?!?!

@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson Doc, I've done that in the past when I travelled to the US. I'm currently located in Brazil and what the dealer here in my hometown tells me is that the part is obsolete and there's no other way of obtaining it (at least in Brazil). Any dealer can do this search and request for the part that's inventoried somewhere else? I ask this as I'll be traveling soon and this could be a sound strategy to get an NOS OEM part. Thanks for the help!

Absolutely no disrespect intended as you are clearly someone who knows and loves Harleys. I enjoy your videos and get a lot out of them. I understand that H-D is your employer so you need to be loyal to them. But as a Harley owner the past 60 years my experience with Dealerships and the MoCo have not been that great. For example, I have two dealerships not far from me and they consistently never have the parts I need in stock and don't have a lot of interest in ordering them. Even commonly needed consumable items. I just tried to buy the parts needed to rebuild the shift lever mechanism (which commonly needs to be replaced every 20k miles)... not a single part was in stock. So I had to order individual parts all over the Internet. Then, when trying to tighten the hex screw that connects the shifter arm to the transmission spline I noticed that the allen head was completely rounded off! I bought the bike new and no one has been in there so this must have happened in the factory. The fastener seems to have very soft metal so I don't think it's even the stock grade 8 fastener. I always replace the screw with an aircraft quality aftermarket part but I am still fighting with it t get it out of there. I truly wish that Harley Davidson was all that and a bag of chips as you say but sadly, over my lifetime, "premium motorcycle/premium customer experience" are not words I would use to describe the company or it's products. I can see why Indian is luring away a lot of customers. The MoCo could care less what I, a lowly customer think about anything. Perhaps you have more sway with them?

@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson With all due respect, buying local makes for a good bumper sticker slogan but it is sometimes unrealistic in the real world. I'm 3,000 miles from your place and your dealership may well be fantastic. I travel all over the USA and some Harley dealerships are totally amazing. The two dealerships in my area are absolutely not (although one of them was decent until the owner retired and sold to a McDealership). My closest local dealer is horrible and doesn't respect me (or any of their customers). They have been in business for at least 50 years (numerous owners and name changes but the same crappy customer experience). So please explain to me why I should order parts (that they should already have in stock) from the dealership just down the street from me when they treat me like crap any time I walk in the place? Especially when I can get what I need, often better quality and a better price, delivered right to my door faster (by companies that may or may not value my business). Your snide remark aside, I do happen to prefer doing business locally.... but I don't patronize any business that does not value me as a customer. And I don't reward bad behavior. If they treated me half way decent and if they had what I needed in stock at least sometime it might be a different story. As an aside, I am a long time (60 years) Harley rider and wouldn't ride anything else. But I have no illusions about the MoCo (speaking of companies that don't give a crap about their customers). I've been fighting with the bolt that connects to the shift lever into the transmission shaft spline as the connection is very wobbly. The head was rounded off (No one has been in there since the bike was new so it was rounded off at the factory). I finally got the bolt out of there. I had to be very careful because if I broke the head off it would be major surgery to repair it. So inspecting the grade 8 bolt I see several threads that are completely crushed on it and not from being cross-threaded. Crushed like someone took vice grips to them. The shift arm is soft metal so it's pretty obvious that the bolt was defective (possibly intentionally sabotaged) before it was installed. This (in addition to the cost) is why I trust no one working on my motorcycle. This dolt at the factory didn't look at the fastener before s/he installed it? And s/he didn't think anything was unusual when the fastener froze up before it was completely installed? So frozen that the trained gorilla rounded off the head of an aircraft grade bolt? As I said, I understand that you need to be loyal to your employer. But there is a LOT to be desired when it comes to the MoCo and some H-D dealerships. P/N 856A if you're interested. No sign of any threadlocker... which I believe is already installed on the fasteners before they get into inventory. I'm sure the threads on the soft metal shift lever are damaged but I would have to remove the inner primary to replace the part so.... the connection seems pretty tight so it will have to do.

Doc, I have an 80 evo, 97 Road king. It needs to be rebuilt. I am considering replacing it with a Ultima 100. I know you’re a Harley guy so this question might be unfair to ask, but on reliability only, is rebuilding a 1997 80 Evo going to be more reliable than buying a new Ultima 100 in? I know the 100 inch would give me a little more performance, honestly, I do not care about performance, at the end of the day I only care about reliability. Went to the Harley shop for a price on getting my engine freshened up and they gave me a price of about 2500. I have nit priced one out in a while, but I think 100 in ultimate engine is right around $3000 or a little bit more. Just don’t know if it’s beneficial to get a brand new engine, or should I just avoid the Ultima altogether? Again, reliability is the only thing I care about, in the next 30,000 miles what engine would I need to put more money into, the 80 Evo I rebuilt or the 100 Ultima? I appreciate your answer on this, even if your answer is the ultimate engine is junk, rebuild your Evo. Lol.
@LowCountryHarleyDavidson
Жыл бұрын
I do not have enough experience to give judgment of the Ultima motor. From my point of view. If you went with the Ultima who would work on it and get parts for it? Now you could say the same for early Harley bikes but traveling across this nation you will see and find dealers and cycle shops that will repair, service and find parts for your Evo. The 100 “ motor if built Square 4” Stroke by 4” bore can be built to last. Will there be a warranty and who will honor it? The choice is always yours…..Doc
