The actor who portrayed the caveman did a masterful depiction.

Woulda been great to see it on the big screen. I was 15 when it first came out and where I lived in Canada it was restricted to 18 and older. Anyone under 18 couldn't get in, not even with an adult. I saw it a couple of years later on video and it's been a favourite ever since

I remember going to the movies as a kid with my older brother and cousin and sneaking in to part of this after our movie ended. I was already nervous about sneaking in and then this sasquatch creature horrified me when he made his grand entrance in the hallway chase scene.

For me he is the best hominid represented in a film... curiosity, aggressiveness, screams and reactions, juggling, spontaneity, size and proportions... a very successful fantasy without a doubt, and I don't think the actor is Mr Hurt (R.I.P.)

One profoundly silly movie, and its novelization by the screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky doesn't help much. But not many don't think the whatever-it-is was a stuntman...and he wasn't. He was Miguel Godreau, per his 1996 obituary "a former lead dancer with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater." The direction, cinematography, editing, makeup...and him, sans dialogue and very little else. I'd argue he makes the movie.
