Had to laugh at the President Biden radio reference lol. I have 2 baofeng but don't know how to program works great around the property though

Easy to program using chirp, there are pre set channels that can be uploaded

I have 2 Baofengs. look for the programming cable you can buy separately. saves a LOT of time. CHIRP software makes the difference too.

@TheGrumpy01 I have the cable but work computer wouldn't let me load chirp and neither did the library lol

In a shtf situation listening will be 1000 times more important then talking. A simple CB can get information from all around the world even it you can only talk five miles.

Skip would be the most important feature of a CB in SHTF times.

You will skip further with sideband. I had a Cobra 148 that put 35 watts and with skip I could talk to Australia. No problem.

As a ham and a GMRS i think a CB is a great way for people to communicate. It travels better than GMRS and is easy to use. Cheap and equipment is plentiful. If it was amplified in a SHTF scenario then range would be huge.

@thestevedoughtyshow27 even a modest boost of 25-50 watts and reasonable height could talk across medium size metro areas. Of course it's illegal.

As a tree climber, every now and then I get to go setup an antenna for a real HAM family.. I love it, I always ask where to listen for them

As the comms guy in the family, I need to delve more into CB. I have the McKinley aswell, seems like a solid radio. Thanks for the video and Godspeed!

if SHTF I would not use CB. the 20,40 and 80 meter band would be your best bet just because of the distance and ease of just tossing up a long wire and make a 600 plus mile contact without conditions (skip)

You're exactly right. I don't understand most peoples notion of "prep' communications. With my mobile ham radios, I practice communication with my wife from 30 miles (distance to work) away on 40 meter during the day and 80 meter at night using a horizontal dipole strung along bushes at a park, or using wooden branches I find to get it five feet high etc. I can easily communicate anywhere within a few hundred miles with this method. No way a CB or any other radio radio can remotely compare to HF ham capabilities.

I can't understand what's being said on the radio in this video. Paused at 1:32 so I might get used to it later in or you might talk about it, but that's my take unless I watch the rest.

everyone reading my comment ask your self this, what is your safety worth in a very likely to happen shtf scenario? Don’t cheap out with cb! Go get yourself a pair of HF radios immediately and a pair of nvis antennas for 40 and 80m !!! and yes teach your wife and kids how to use it!!

Negative. A quality AM only is plenty good for most people. With my Cobra 29 LX I can talk to people in Missouri, South Carolina, Maryland, and Tennessee when the propagation is good. All on factory 4 watt with a Lil' Wil magnetic antenna. SSB is fine and dandy but when the skip is not rolling, most of the time, it's back to line of sight.

Instead of criticizing, how about you make a video show us all what kind of commo is "worth a thing" and how to use it when regular comms are down?
@thestevedoughtyshow27

@homesteadprepper I didn't say a word about cammo did I. I gave you my over 50 years experience in radio. CB is AM and 4 watts stock, a side band CB is 12 watts stock, three times the power. Now it's nice to have FM, but that's line of sight, so if the station you want is on the other side of the hill, good luck. Now I hope you understand what I was saying. Me, I own ham gear with 800 watts on tap and 1500 rounds of 5.56 green tip.

@@thestevedoughtyshow27so, FM is line of sight and SSB isn’t? In that what you’re saying?

@edwardlemley5222 Yes. Two different types of modulation and two different wave forms. Single sideband is am, but it only uses part of the bandwidth, upper or lower. Your still on 27.375, but by using less bandwidth and more power you get get out further. Now on am cb you push the ptt your s meter moves, not so on sideband, not until you talk into the microphone

You should get a Trump radio. You'll pay six times its worth, and it will lie to you all day long.

I'll take that Trump radio any day over the Biden. You on the other hand, are really investing in a Kim Jong Un/Mao/Xi Jinping radio.
